Walking like Jim Rooker.

NFL.com reported that Gruden’s not pleased with Martavis performance so far.  Do you think his skill set was better suited for Steelers system than elsewhere?
Ray Fittipaldo
3:08
I'm not at Oakland's camp so I can't speak to what's going on there. Bryant was a better gamer than a practice player here. Maybe it'll be the same in Oakland.

Over and under on QB sneaks this year?

When Bell moves on in 2019, do the Steelers get a compensatory draft pick in2020?   If so, oughtn’t it be a decent one?
Ray Fittipaldo
3:10
Should be a third-rounder. That's why transition tag in 2019 is unlikely. They wouldn't get anything in return if he signed with another team.

Ray, after the top 8 OL (Villanueva, Foster, Pouncey, DeCastro, Gilbert, Finney, Feiler, Okorafor), do any roster hopefuls have a shot either at the 53 or practice squad?
Ray Fittipaldo
3:12
If they keep eight on the 53-man roster they'll have two on the practice. If they keep nine they'll keep one on the practice squad. Jake Rodgers spent time on the practice squad last year. I think he could be there again. Parker Collins or Patrick Morris might have a shot at the p-squad. Larson Graham might be someone they want to develop on the p-squad as well.  What you're looking for is versatility. Guys who can play center and guard or guard and tackle or all 3. Those are the ones who make it because that's what's needed to be a backup O-lineman in the NFL.

Hey Ray, Tunch and Wolf are saying Keion and Adeniyi are having strong camps at OLB.  Do you agree, and if so, which one has the higher ceiling in your opinion?
Ray Fittipaldo
3:13
Hard for me to say but Adeniyi is only 20 so he might have more room to develop.
Dick Jones
3:13
No way they expect Matekevitch to play more than 20-30% of defensive snaps, right? This guy looks like one of those players on Hard Knocks that have to turn in their playbook
Ray Fittipaldo
3:14
Jon Bostic is likely to start. Matakevich might be just a special teamer again.
Steeler Guy
3:14
How much do you expect opposing offenses to run against the defensive formations that will have additional secondary players and no MLBs on the field?  (I'm guessing they'll do it until the D shows they can stop it?)  Concerned a Fournette could have big success against that.
Ray Fittipaldo
3:14
Right, but will the Jaguars call a running play for Fournette when it's third-and-8? The key is to stop the run on first and second down so teams don't have the option to run on third-and-2 or third-and-3.

Should we expect a huge change with the new o coach?
Ray Fittipaldo
3:15
No. I would expect some tweaks here and there but he was hired because the QB and head coach wanted to keep continuity.
Jud
3:16
Do you think the new Special Teams rules will benefit or hurt the Steelers?
Ray Fittipaldo
3:16
Have to watch the preseason games to find out. I just don't know by watching practice.
Lambert Lunatic
3:16
Ray, reading and hearing mostly mixed feedback on Cam Sutton so far.  What’s your take?
Ray Fittipaldo
3:17
He's been having a so-so camp in my opinion.
DFWSteeler
3:17
Why would you say Ben has not been happy with the WRs all camp?
Ray Fittipaldo
3:18
He's had a couple of outbursts when he hasn't been happy with their route running, looking back for the ball, etc. But that's not out of the ordinary. It's camp. It's time to get stuff like that ironed out.

3:18
"doesn't have to worry about conditioning the way some other WR's have in recent years"?? Who was that shade directed at, Ray??
Ray Fittipaldo
3:18
Sammie Coates for one.
Rick Gazica
3:19
Keeping 4 safeties, are we looking at burnett, davis, edwards, and Allen at safety coming out of camp
Ray Fittipaldo
3:19
I'm not sure Marcus Allen has this team made.
EM
3:19
Isn’t it time for the 4-3 Defense to be their primary scheme! Not enough personal for the 3-4 anymore.
Ray Fittipaldo
3:20
They're only in 3-4 for a quarter of the snaps as it it.

Been attending camp for years. Am I right in observing that most minor injuries stay on campus and are treated by trainers, while more significant injuries are sent back to town (thus, causing more worry re:AB)?
Ray Fittipaldo
3:20
Yes, but Brown was sent back for an evaluation not a hospital stay (to my knowledge). The odd thing is him not being at practice like the other players.
Nurse Ratched
3:21
Is the increased emphasis on tackling in training camp leading to this increase in injured players?
Ray Fittipaldo
3:21
I'm sure it's not helping, but Keith Butler believes you have to tackle in camp to prepare for the regular season.
Salami Phil
3:21
Have the Steelers released their initial depth chart yet?
Ray Fittipaldo
3:22
Yes they did on Saturday, but I wouldn't pay much attention to it. They put one out because the NFL makes them. It didn;t reflect anything when it comes to what's been happening at camp.
Rob Rogers
3:23
What are the chances that the Steelers keep 4 QBs on the roster this year? With Rudolph as heir apparent, no sense keeping Landry Jones after his contract is up this year. And Dobbs is young enough to stick around for years as a #3 and eventual #2 after Ben retires. What say you?
Ray Fittipaldo
3:23
They won't keep 4. They came out and said that draft night.
3 Dog Night
3:23
How is Eli Rogers' knee coming? Should we expect anything from him early in the regular season?
Ray Fittipaldo
3:23
If he doesn't make it off PUP by the beginning of the regular season he'll miss the first six games.
3:24
That's all the time I have for today. Thanks for all the questions. We'll do it again next week.
