Why can’t we keep our pitchers healthy? Is it connected to what we do to them to make them better?
Darragh McDonald
12:20
This is a good question that I'm not smart enough to answer. The Rays themselves are probably trying to figure this out.
It could just be that their smaller payroll means that they have to take more risks on guys with red flags. I don't know.

Why do the Rays keep falling short in the postseason? 7 game losing streak tied with the Blue Jays for longest active.
Darragh McDonald
12:21
I tend not to read too much into that kind of stuff. They were in the World Series in 2020.
12:22
Even really good teams can have seven-game losing streaks.

Would  Brandon Lowe plus a couple of prospects be enough to get Miller or Woo from Seattle?
Darragh McDonald
12:22
Depends on the prospects but the structure makes sense. Seattle needs a second baseman.

The SP depth looks awful, which is very unlike the Rays.  If Glasnow gets traded, Eflin, Civale, Littell, Baz and a bullpen day has to be the worst rotation they've had since their Devil Rays Days, and AA/AAA is barren outside Taj Bradley.  I'd prioritize 3 or more MLB ready starters with options more than anything else.  I wish I could form this into a question, but it's not.  The Rays are desperate for depth, and that's very new for them.
Darragh McDonald
12:23
I agree with shaq_diesel.
That's why I'm skeptical of a Glasnow trade.
You can never rule anything out with the Rays, but it's tough to see.

Thought on the return of Baz? He'll probably be under an innings limit, but those innings could be special, right?
Darragh McDonald
12:24
Yeah, I mentioned this in the outlook but he still hasn't hit 100 innings in a season, majors or minors. After missing a full year, it's tough to know what kind of leash he'll have next year.

will wander franco ever play baseball again?
Darragh McDonald
12:26
I don't have any inside info, as I mentioned. It's an unprecedented situation. But my guess would be he never makes it back to the majors. Could play in another league. That's just my guess, based on Osuna, Bauer, etc. Maybe Urias too. I don't know, just guessing.'
Bats
12:27
Got to think the rays move some bats this off-season to get caminero and mead and possibly arranda more playing time. Who do you see being moved?
Darragh McDonald
12:29
Yeah, I can see this. In the outlook, I speculated Margot, B. Lowe, Arozarena and Ramirez as candidates. They're all good players but they're making some decent-ish money and could theoretically be replaced internally.
12:30
It's probably the key unknown about the Rays this winter. They've never had a payroll more than about $80MM. Neander said they want to go to $120MM just to keep everyone around. But if they don't do that, then all kinds of wacky trades would have to happen.
Anthony Franco read my outlook yesterday and summed it up as "They could do a bunch of stuff, don't really have to do anything. The end."
12:31
Seems like anything in that spectrum is on the table for the Rays.

If the Rays decide to trade Brandon Lowe, what can they get for him and which internal option takes over 2B?
Darragh McDonald
12:32
It would probably be a bit similar to the Teoscar trade, which got the Jays a controllable reliever and a pitching prospect.
Lowe is making less money than Teo and plays a position that's tougher to fill, but he also has more of an injury history.

In the worst case scenario ( which looks like a strong possibility)  would the rays still be responsible for the remainder on Wanders 182M deal or is their a void?
Darragh McDonald
12:35
I don't know for sure but contracts like this usually have a morality clause that voids the deal. If Franco is convicted and goes to jail, I think the deal dies.

am i starting catcher in 2024?
Darragh McDonald
12:36
Seems to be trending that way, yeah, though they could always bring in someone from outside. Mentioned the trade possibilities earlier but the FA market has Gary Sanchez, Victor Caratini, Tom Murphy, Yasmani Grandal, Austin Hedges, Martin Maldonado, Jorge Alfaro, Tucker Barnhart, and more.

What is the ETA for Jason Adam to return?
Darragh McDonald
12:37
Oblique injuries can take a few weeks or perhaps months but I haven't seen anything to suggest he won't be healthy by the spring.
Baron
12:37
With the free agent market limited on bats, can you see the Rays cash in on Diaz and move him in a trade for a rotational arm?
Darragh McDonald
12:38
I wouldn't say definitely no. The Rays aren't afraid of trading really good guys. But Yandy is really very good and he just signed an extension not too long ago.

12:38
Could you see a deal where the Rays send Arozarena and Glasnow to the M’s and get back Logan Gilbert?
Darragh McDonald
12:40
A Glasnow trade like this is more plausible because the Rays at least get some starting pitching back, but I don't think they would do this.
Baron
12:40
More likely this offseason, big trade or major signing?
Darragh McDonald
12:43
I would lean trade. They're already talking about stretching the budget just to keep everyone. It's hard to imagine there's room for a big signing, unless there's a big trade first.

When the Rays trade Glasnow and/or anyone else making money, will they be acquiring slapdick prospects or prospects of the non-slapdick variety?
Darragh McDonald
12:43

What do the Rays need to give up to acquire a young catcher like the Cardinals’ Ivan Herrera?
Darragh McDonald
12:44
Cardinals are looking for controllable pitching, so, Taj Bradley?
