Bradley has far more trade value than Herrera, but that's probably where the Cardinals would start the talks.

If you could choose one Rays player to offer an extension to , who would it be
Darragh McDonald

Paredes.

Wondering if you think a Brandon Lowe trade is a possibility?  Seems like a very Ray-sy thing to do would be to trade him and play walls, brujan, basabe, mead, aranda, whoever there that’s cheaper.
Darragh McDonald
12:47
Yeah, I can see it.
This would definitely be the classic Rays move.
12:48
If they are serious about increasing the payroll in order to keep everyone, then it's less likely. But this is their M.O.

Rays a trade partner for White Sox? Still have some good IF prospects and if any team can unlock Cease, it's the Rays.
Darragh McDonald
12:49
It would definitely make sense if the Sox make him available. But it seems like they plan on competing in 2024. Cease if their only good starter so they can't trade him while seriously trying.

Logan Gilbert for Randy Arozarena, Tyler Glasnow, and Shawn Armstrong. Who says no? Rays get a controllable young starter, and the Mariners improve their offense while getting a solid one-year replacement for Gilbert.

This feels like a Seattle trade. They just moved Sewald for MLB-ready pieces. Have done the same in the past with other guys.

Margot is set to be paid $10 million next year, do you think the rays will trade him, also would there be trade value $10 million seems like too much for him to make
Darragh McDonald
12:51
Yeah, you're right. He's probably available but return wouldn't be huge. Offense is generally meh and the speed/defense seems has been less impressive in the last couple of years.

You are forgetting Taj Bradley and Baz, with Springs and rasmussen coming back mid-season...Glasnow is gone by the trading deadline to the Dodgers.
Darragh McDonald
12:51
Baz will have workload concerns and Bradley isn't a sure thing yet.
12:52
Rays can't really bank on Springs/Rasmussen either. They are expected back midseason but setbacks happen.

With poor fan support for so long, why hasn't Manfred tried to get them to move like the A's ?
Darragh McDonald
12:53
Well, the Rays and A's have always been mentioned in the same breath in recent years as clubs that need to either get a new stadium or move. Rays seem to be getting their new stadium.

Why do you think that the Rays have had great success in the regular season but have struggled in the post season? Is it a talent issue? Coaching issue? Or front office philosophy issue?
Darragh McDonald
12:56
I'm skeptical of any explanation people have for postseason success. It seems fairly random to me.
About a decade ago, when the Royals were good, people were saying "contact hitting and relievers, that's how you win in the playoffs."
12:57
Now with the Phillies, people say "Power hitting and starting pitching, that's how you win in the playoffs!"
The Rays have struggled a bit lately but were in the World Series three years ago.
12:58
The playoffs are always matchups of good teams against good teams, so a good team has to lose. That's why the Dodgers have just one title after 11 straight postseason appearances. The Yankees haven't been below .500 since the early '90s but haven't won a title since 2009.
12:59
I'm not saying teams shouldn't try to find answers or build their club in a way that leads to postseason success but I just don't know that there are easy answers.

After all the complaints, the Rays seem to me to be in the best position (financial and player quality) than any other MLB team.  Your thoughts???
Darragh McDonald
1:01
Well, you're correct that they're not in bad shape. This team just won 99 games and isn't losing very much to free agency.
The rotation looks a bit weak after all the injuries though. And it depends if they have the money to avoid selling off key pieces.
1:02
But as of right now, yes, the roster is very good.

Could they extend McClanahan for 2 years, one to rehab and the other to come back
Darragh McDonald
1:03
They don't have to since he still has four arb years (2024-2027). But they certainly could if they wanted to just get it out of the way. Orioles just did this with Felix Bautista.
1:04
Even if guys aren't hurt, they sometimes just work out deals to avoid the headache. Jays and Bichette signed a three-year deal to cover his final arb years, for instance.

Why are the Rays so bad with top pitching prospects? Bradley was terrible this year. Baz and Honeywell never panned out. Patiño and McKay too
Darragh McDonald
1:05
It's too early to give up on Bradley or Baz, but injuries are often the culprit in these cases.
