When can we apply to access Leeds?
AvatarMolly

Hey Tasnia - you transfer onto A2L in Year 13, so we'll be in touch with you all nearer the time to talk you through the process we have set up especially for RfE students :)

What are important factors you would ask us to consider when choosing a university degree?
AvatarMeghan Clamp
4:06
Hi Mimi, hope you're well! There are several factors to consider when choosing a degree, but we would strongly advise you to think about the following as your main considerations: your interest in the subject (remember you'll be studying this for 3+ years, location of the university, if the course includes a work placement year and your preferred learning style (i.e considering if you would prefer seminar or practical based course) - hope this helps! :)

I've got plans on staying home,
Molly, do you have any plans for the weekend?

What do you anticipate would be the biggest adjustment when moving away from home?
AvatarMolly
4:10
Great question Kya! I think this is quite personal, but some of the big things are about living with new people, and settling into your own routine. It can be tricky to navigate your flatmates' different personalities, cleanliness expectations, etc, but like all challenges it helps us grow and become more resilient!

Do you think you can still get the full ‘university experience’ if you go to university close to home?
AvatarMeghan Clamp
4:11
Yes definitely! I went to the University of Huddersfield which is only an hour away from where I live, but I 100% still got the full uni experience as I still lived in halls in my first year and made sure I signed up to societies and events to make friends :) but I also had the best of both worlds if I was feeling a bit home sick, I was only an hour from home!

Hi Molly and Meghan, I've been wondering with the Rfe seminars that we have been attending during holiday, such as reproductive justice, are you allowed to incorporate into personal statement and if so how? Also i was wondering with university open days coming around, does Rfe have funding around that? Many thanks :D
AvatarMolly
4:15
Hey Tian, yes you can absolutely include these in your statement, and we'd actually encourage you to do so! How you do that is up to you - you could talk about the session content and what you found interesting, or the style of teaching and what you liked about it, or even just any motivations you had for attending that particular session. The Opportunities Fund can be used for travel to open days, so that would be how we can help there :)

Did you find it difficult to connect with new people or is it easier in university  ??
AvatarMeghan Clamp
4:15
It's important to remember that everyone is in the same boat at University Mimi and as everyone has the same passion for the subject you are studying, it's very easy to make friends as it's all like minded people on the same course and uni's generally have a sociable atmosphere! Joining societies is also a great to connect with others!
MiMI
4:15
Also are you aware of anything generic we should not include in our personal statement and anything you know which makes a personal statement stand out to different unis?
AvatarMolly
4:17
Hey Mimi, our Get Set For Uni Part 2 resources are on the student portal for you to have a look at, and they focus on personal statements for a good portion of time. We also have personal statement appointments and resources that we offer in September of Y13 so you'll be able to access those too!

When applying for dental hygiene and therapy, is work experience required? Thankyou
AvatarMeghan Clamp
4:17
yes we would always strongly encourage this, but it doesn't necessarily have to be in a dentist, although that is preferred :)
Filip

If I were to apply for music, what kind of work experience would be appropriate to include in my personal statement?
AvatarMeghan Clamp
4:25
Hi Filip! I studied Music Performance at University and prior to my degree I was in an acapella choir and a band, which I talked about a lot in my interview and personal statement. For work experience I worked part time at an amateur performing arts school teaching singing to small children, so anything like this will always show your enthusiasm and commitment to the subject! Perhaps, you could reach out to a local orchestra, theatre or recording studio to arrange some volunteering? :)
Fatima
4:22
Hi, what’s the best way to talk about the reach for excellence programme on our personal statements
AvatarMolly
4:24
Hi Fatima! You can include RfE however you like - as evidence of academic interest, knowledge about university in general, dedication and commitment - the list goes on! It's really about how you weave that experience into the rest of your statement, so there's not a one-size-fits-all approach unfortunately.

AvatarMolly
4:27
Hi Fatima, yes you will need a PGCE to be a teacher, regardless of what your undergraduate degree programme is
