I think SD badly wants Ohtani, but not sure they can take on a $50 mil guy without unloading one of the large deals
7:02
Oracle would be a great home park for Stroman
Strakman
7:01
Stroman is a finicky guy, but he could pitch well for the Giants. And, Bellinger would be great on the team, play OF and first base.
Frank Novak
7:01
Honestly if I’m the Angels I think about it. Maybe get the Padres to toss in a relief arm
SC Jim
7:01
Bellinger probably comeback player of the year. My concern with Stroman is that his underlying numbers aren't that great so could be a regression to the mean. Good get but could be potential overpay candidate.
Frank Novak
7:00
Stroman seems so Giants. The Logan Webb mutual admiration
Strakman
7:00
I was thinking to myself earlier that a Soto for Otani deal might be possible, or how about a Otani for Tatis Jr. deal.
Frank Novak
7:00
Who says no???
6:59
Here’s an out of LF idea. Ohtani for Juan Soto, Jackson Merrill, and Ryan Weathers
Strakman
6:59
Do the Giants jump in and trade for Stroman and maybe Bellinger?
Frank Novak
6:58
Angels would need to get Bobby Miller, Emmett Sheehan, Vargas, and three other decent prospects too
SC Jim
6:58
Agree. My point is they don't part with Carteya unless it's a block buster trade.
Strakman
6:57
Both the White Sox and Cardinals are going to be trading some guys.
Frank Novak
Angels would need Vargas, Bobby Miller, Emmett Sheehan, Andy Pages and
6:57
Arte Moreno HATES the Dodgers
6:56
I can’t see the Angels willingly sending Ohtani to the Dodgers unless they got something ridiculous like 5-6 players in return
SC Jim
6:56
LA would probably be willing to move Vargas, Busch, Grove and Pepiot for the right returns. Carteya too but that would have to be something like Ohtani.
Frank Novak
6:56
Came from a Giants pro scout that talked with a former colleague as they chatted in a minor league press box before a game
6:55
This was relayed to me within the past 48 hours
I can tell you from authority that the front office ‘wants to make a splash’ but there is concern about mortgaging the future
6:54
With Miguel Vargas and a young arm being two of the players that goes to Chicago
SC Jim
6:54
Agree on LA. Be surprised if they don't trade with White Sox.
Strakman
6:53
Cardinals DeJong has power and a pretty good glove, but he does not hit for average.
Frank Novak
6:53
But LA might be interested there, and they could honestly use RPs big time. I could see a scenario where the Dodgers trade three prospects for Giolito, Anderson, Kelly and Graveman
SC Jim
6:53
They never won anything but I loved watching the Dubs when then had Mullin, Teagle, Higgins and Sleepy. Unfortunately couldn't rebound or play defense but they could score.
Frank Novak
6:52
Yes, that’s possible
Strakman
6:52
Instead of Giolito and Moncada, what about Giolito and Anderson?
Frank Novak
6:52
I still like the idea. But I don’t know the cost. I think it’s possible he could be bundled with a RP and Anderson even in a larger deal
Strakman
6:51
So Frank, what's up with Giolito? You liked the idea of the Giants trading for him a while back. What about now?
Frank Novak
6:50
Junis’ outing today probably helped his trade value, as there were likely several scouts doing assignment work
6:49
And Anderson is a guy who makes all the plays defensively too
ClutchUp
6:49
Kemp is like a gnat. Plays hard no matter which team he's dealt to or lands with. But at one time the Giants downfall was the same as several Warrior teams - which is having too many guys who resemble each other. The Warriors once had about 7 guys who could play the wing - F - and until they found a point forward in Green they could never get to the dance. Kemp is better than Juan Pierre but maybe not Johnny Damon in his prime. Nyjer Morgan aka Tony Plush really played himself out of baseball by flipping off every stadium crowd.
Frank Novak
6:49
Teams are so desperate for arms that Lance Lynn is expected to fetch a return of some sort and he’s got a 6.00+ ERA
SC Jim
6:49
I agree that Giants will unload some players off the 26 man roster.
Strakman
6:48
Then there is Crawford's nagging knee issue. That's why looking into Anderson might be a decent risk. I have no real confidence that Schmitt is going to turn around his hitting enough at this time. Anderson, if his head is on right, can hit.
SC Jim
6:47
I'd keep Joc and hopes he gets it going. He's one of those guys that can look terrible for three weeks then go off.
Strakman
6:47
If the Giants are going to try to get an OFer who they think can hit and drive in some runs, Joc has to go, I think.
Frank Novak
6:47
I still think they’ll be able to unload one of Wood, Manaea, Junis or Stripling. Possibly Junis plus one of the others….
6:46
If the Giants were selling, somebody would take Joc for a modest prospect or two
6:45
That’s a good question re: Slater. I’m really not sure the answer
