Hey chatters! Great to host you here as always, and hard to believe that we've only got two weeks left. But I'm ready for questions, and y'all have delivered yet again. Let's go and nail down these championships (and/or set the table for future titles!)....
Beano
12:06
Hi Brent! Thanks as always. NL 10 team 5x5. I am in 1st. Still have $6 FAAB left. I will grab 1 pitcher to replace the dangerous Z Thompson- is Houser a good call? Lucchesi? If not, there are many late inning relievers who might get K's and a win...
Offense  - I need HRs, we can reserve a guy for the ROS & replace. I think I should reserve P Crow-Armstrong & FAAB: j heyward, c kieboom or e rodriguez. If not, Free agents: Vogelbach, Tellez, Donaldson, the Palacios Brothers, M Andujar
Appreciate your advice.
Brent Hershey
12:06
Congrats so far Beano! Our numbers for the week say Lucchesi>Houser if you're going the SP route; though if you're in avoiding blowups mode, perhaps one of those relievers is a better shot for this week. Good luck!
Offense -- at this point, looking for hot streaks; and Heyward is on one right now and facing 5 RHP this week. I'd prefer him to the others for sure.

Hi Brent! Thanks for all of the great advice this season.  Does Pepiot make 2 starts this week?  Pepiot (vs. DET and maybe SF) or Kirby (@OAK) in H2H points?
Brent Hershey
12:07
Can't say with 100% confidence (last 2 weeks always weird w/ SP schedules), but I'd lean Pepiot here in hopes of the 2. IF he only gets 1, vDET is a goodie.

Good morning sir, Really appreciate the help all season. Sometimes you need that outside opinion on moves and my wife wants no part of that. In dynasty (in a 5x5 deep 10 team), how do balance between future potential and solid current performance? For example: lack of roster spaces who do you want on your team for 2024 and beyond? Kyle Harrison, Nick Lodolo, Michael King, Tristan McKenzie, Aaron Ashby. I have two spots for next year and tough choices to make.
Brent Hershey
12:12
Yeah, that is tough .. I'd probably eliminate McKenzie and Ashby — both due to injuries, not knowing how they will respond/come back in 2024. I think of Lodolo's injury differently (non-arm). Then it comes down to long-term upside -- I like what I've seen from King so far A LOT, but still feel Lodolo/Harrison are higher ceilings. I'd probably pencil in those 2.

Good day! Trying to maintain an in the money spot saves / holds the best shot to gain ground but can’t lose ground on strikeouts - what do you see this week for relievers Graterol, Merry-weather Stephenson, Brash — and 2 start Taj Bradley.  Can start 3 of those guys this week,  the rest head to the reserves. Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:14
Our matchup numbers love Bradley in both starts this week, so he's one of them for sure. Think I'd go Graterol + Stephenson as the other two ... just better pitchers recently.

My AL-only league will be decided in the strikeouts category.  I'm looking at Sawyer Gipson-Long who has had a couple of nice starts.  I know nothing about him however, would he be a good pick with most likely only 2 starts left?  And what is the problem with Flaherty, he's simply awful.
Brent Hershey
12:16
Yep, would take a shot on Gipson-Long; not going to K 12 every outing but it was backed up by swing and miss for sure. And yes, Flaherty has disappointed for sure. I think generally he's been overrated for a while (and say that as one who's fallen for it myself).

12:19
McMahon has over 20 HR, but still seems disappointing. Does Mauricio have more upside over McMahon in a dynasty league or better to stick with the more proven McMahon?
Brent Hershey
12:19
I'd side Mauricio here. More BA risk, but HR/SB combo with more room to grow. McMahon is solid, and some metrics point to another level ... but they've been saying that for a couple years and he's in the best hitting park in baseball. In dynasty, upside play is the right one.

12:21
Campusano has looked pretty good now that he's healthy and playing regularly. Has he shown enough to be starting catcher next year and how would you rank him with Stephenson and E.Rodriguez in 2024?
Brent Hershey
12:21
Has taken longer than what we've thought, but Campy's 2H has been impressive. Swings hard, but more contact than one normally associates with cuts like his. That HR juice rates above Stephenson (I'd have as #2 of this group; do think there's another level) and Endy for 2024.

Thanks for the weekly chats!         Baty is driving me batty. What's the chances he will be a keeper @10 (NL only) next spring?
Brent Hershey
12:23
I think there's a chance, though it's going to be a tough call if your keeper deadline is before spring training. I still believe in the bat long-term and think Baty is the 3B of the future (Mauricio to 2B or OF), but would like to see confirmation of that in the offseason and/or in March. Stearns has a great track record, so I'd trust whatever direction he takes w/ this potential logjam.

Hi Brent - H2H points leave, RBI, R, SB all have the same value, SP's are weighted more towards wins but can get points with IP's, K, and QS. I have three questions for you.

For RP, Clase or Helsley
For OF, Mark Canha or Nick Castellanos
For SP, Joe Ryan (2 starts), Logan Allen (2 starts), or George Kirby (1 start). Ryan has 2 starts with some nice matchups, but can't make it past 4 IP. Kirby also has a nice matchup, but having some issues of his own.
Brent Hershey
12:28
Assuming this is for ROS ..
-Clase
-Castellanos
-Ryan; still be combo of matchups and pure stuff. Has struggled with IP a bit since he's back, but against those two opponents, should qualify for wins at least.

Hi Brent, if you had to drop Alvarado or Sewald, which would you lean towards? They’ve been my worst two (of nine) relief pitchers both in terms of skills and recent results. Ours is a 16 team H2H keeper league which has sholds as one of ten categories. Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:30
I trust Sewald more. I've seen most of the Alvarado outings, and he's not yet gotten his command back. Fact that it's sholds makes it closer, but given the choice, Alvarado would be my cut.

Hi Brent,  K. Farmer has solid BPVs and looks to be playing every day.  What is his impact over last 2 weeks?
Brent Hershey
12:31
Yeah, it's a heater for sure. I'd probably not chase him from the FA pool ... but if I had him rostered already, I'd give serious consideration to plugging him in the lineup.

Drop one for ROS needing BA badly and RBI - B Drury, E Suarez, Seth Brown, Aaron Hicks

Is the risk of @TEX worth the reward of CHW for starting Kutter this week? Hoping to protect ratios
Brent Hershey
12:34
A cop-out, yes, but really depends on your other options. There's been enough Kutter blowups in the 2H (and skills regression) that TEX makes me a bit nervous.

12-team AL Only keeper league, traditional 5X5 $260 cap.  Looking ahead to next year curious if you would keep, trade or cut the following:  $3 Lawrence Butler, $1 Manuel Margot, $1 Jose Siri, $5 Jordan Westburg.  And on the pitching side:  $11 Sonny Gray, $11 Aaron Civale, $3 Byran Abreu.  Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:37
Keep: Westburg, Civale, maybe Abreu
Cut (IE, you can't find a buyer): Margot, Abreu
Trade: Butler, Siri, S Gray

Good afternoon Brent.  Thanks for doing this chat.  With Ohtani and Casas both going on the IL, my roster is a mess going into the last weeks; Micheal Taylor is also on the IL.  So, with the choices of Drew Waters, Robbie Grossman, Oswaldo Cabrera, and Taylor available, do I slide Cabrera to 1B, and use Grossman and Taylor in the OF, or do you suspect that Taylor's IL stint to be longer, necessitating the use of Waters?  I can pick up points in BA and HR with the "correct" choices; SB at not an issue … I am too far ahead to be touched.  Again, thanks.
Brent Hershey
12:39
I'd probably trust Waters over Taylor right now, b/c of the injury. Hate counting on an injury return for a marginal player like Taylor.

12:41
Do you start Eduardo Rodriguez vs LAD and OAK this week?  Or Fujinamo or Nardi?  Thank you.
Brent Hershey
12:41
Yeah, I think I'd run with E-Rod. Tell yourself LA will be resting a star or two :-), and enjoy the back half of the 2-step

12:44
Hi Brent, In a dog fight in my Main.  Looks like Gipson-Long is going in Oakland this week.  He has no rating in the 8-day matchup tool.  My weakest SP this week is Gavin Williams: -.2  against Baltimore.  Would you start G-L instead of Gavin?  All categories in play except ratio.  See you at FPAZ!
Brent Hershey
12:44
Boy, I think I'd lean Williams, but understand the quandary. We've just seen more flashes of dominance from GW that we have from G-L, the kind where the opponent doesn't really matter. If that shows up  vBAL is the question, of course. Good luck, and I'm sure I'll hear about it in November either way!
Brent Hershey
12:46
Perfect place for a First Pitch Arizona plug (Tundra is a many-years attendee to FPAZ). Weekend fantasy baseball conference we at BHQ put on; Nov 2-5 this year. See links on the right rail of the site for more info ... spots still available. It's a blast of a weekend if you can get there! Back to our regularly scheduled program ...

Need a catcher, but also desperate for BA and RBI help, is it worth picking up Porter on KC in a 2 catcher AL only or just leave in Perez to avoid the BA downside?
Brent Hershey
12:47
I usually try to avoid taking zeros. Take the shot if you're close ... anything can happen in 2 weeks!

Tough pitching call this week, Pick (2); Mitch Keller, Clarke Schmidt, Mike Clevinger, Jordan Montgomery or George Kirby.  Thanks
Brent Hershey

You ain't kidding ... Schmidt and Montgomery
