Gerry now reporting that nothing is imminent with Rodgers, might they be circling back to Fields or Darnold?
Brian Batko

Keep in mind we've seen some teams go way down a certain road, particularly with QBs, before reversing course. I'm thinking the Ravens/Lamar and how that all went down. I'm thinking the Rams/Stafford and how that all went down. Something to chew on if you're still wondering about a potential Justin Fields reunion

Am I wrong to deduce that if Fields is 25, already in house, but the Steelers are willing to bring in Aaron Rodgers or career journeyman Sam Darnold, that they really don't think all that much of Fields ability to truly play the QB position.  Like he's right here.  If you thought he could play, this would be a no brainer over an even older band-aid than last year.
Christopher Carter

I think it's important to remember that Fields isn't seen as a franchise guy--and shouldn't be just yet.
To most of the NFL, all three of those names are journeyman options.

Sure seems like a lot of god FA CBs… I’m thinking that will be the next FA to sign with the Steelers… who would look good opposite of Porter?
Christopher Carter
1:59
I've been very high on FA CBs out there. Particularly think Charvarius Ward or Byron Murphy would be very good fits.

I think Asante Samuel Jr. is a good option in the next tier down.
Christopher Carter
2:02
Agreed. If they don't get a top-tier guy he'd be a solid option.

If the Steelers do in fact sign Aaron Rodgers, does that increase the odds of drafting someone like Jaxson Dart or Will Howard in the middle rounds this year?
Christopher Carter
2:03
I think there's a good chance they draft a QB on day 3 of the draft regardless if they have Rodgers or not.
George T
2:03
If we sign Rogers will he spend trading camp an the preseason in his dark room like he did with the Jets
Christopher Carter
2:03
Another reason why I don't think he's a real target.

What was the knock on Metcalf coming out of college.  Second round pick for a 6’4” 225 with blazing speed?  Is there a weakness to his game?
Brian Batko
2:04
Route-running, ball skills, penalty-prone player too. But talent-wise, he's up there with every receiver in the game right now just about.
Christopher Carter
2:06
He's also a major deep ball threat. Most deep ball targets and receptions last year. Does it by being bigger and faster than most opponents.

In his chats, Gerry has indicated there was no way they’d sign Rodgers. What changed?
Christopher Carter
2:06
That's the thing, I'm not sure much did. I think this is posturing.

Is there a historical comp for Sam Darnold?  Someone who was drafted high, seen as a bust (in multiple places) and ACTUALLY turned it around to get big money and franchise treatment somewhere.   Closest I can think is Geno Smith.   This also leads me to believe Darnold might be fool's gold.

So, since ARII said they wanted the backup to be the same type of QB as the starter, are we signing Big Ben to  be the backup?
Christopher Carter

Tom Brady, what you up to?
Ben

Is Rodgers really better than Wilson at this point? $10m/yr better?
Christopher Carter
2:09
Well, they recently faced each other and Wilson won 37-15 so ...

Understood, though he himself admitted he didn't do enough to hang on to the starting job.  A 3rd team in 3 years and the NY media scrutiny just doesn't seem like a smart career move, and if the Steelers sign Rogers and the Jets grab Darnold then where does he go?
Christopher Carter
2:11
People also need to remember that Justin Fields was never the Steelers' QB1. He was filling in for an injured Russell Wilson. When Wilson got healthy, he was back in as starter. Fields hoped he could do well enough to not let that happen, but he didn't.

Who ends up with #14? Predictions?
Christopher Carter

I'll go chalk here and say the Steelers keep George Pickens and he keeps his number.

Sign Rodgers, audibles are back in play?
Christopher Carter

If Rodgers is the path I have a hard time seeing him defer to Arthur Smith.

Have you heard of any teams that are interested in signing Najee?
Christopher Carter
2:12
Raiders were one team. But people know this is a good RB draft class and aren't as jumpy to sign someone for big money that isn't Barkley or Henry.

I still say sign Daniel Jones to a two year contract. IMO he’s better than fields. Draft either Dart Ewers or Howard. Keep Daniels as a backup after that
Christopher Carter
2:13
Daniel Jones would rank beneath Justin Fields for me but I could see both doing similar things. I think Fields wants assurance that he doesn't have to look over his shoulder this offseason.

8-8-1, 9-8, 10-7 seems stuck in neutral to me
Christopher Carter
2:15
They've actually never been 8-8-1, and were only 9-8 once. They've been 10-7 the last two seasons and clearly are trying to add on offense.
Lenny from NY
2:15
Is Arthur Smith going to allow whoever is QB to throw the ball or stick with the run?
Christopher Carter
2:17
I think the Steelers will lean on whatever they perceive as their strength. If it's the run, that. If it's the pass, that. A reminder, the Eagles just won the Super Bowl as the team that ran the ball the most and threw the ball the least in the NFL last season.

Behind that line, Rodgers will not last more than three games.
Christopher Carter
2:18
While I do think the OL takes a step forward this year, they're lack of proven success is another reason I don't think he's the real target.\
