The offense has sucked for three years running now, and the defense hasn't lived up to its billing outside of a fluke against the Bengals consistently, but this is not the same D without Watt.

I think the defense has played good without TJ.  The TD was a tuff play.

least we not forget that even with Watt, this so called “vaunted” defense has given up over 40 points in their last 3 playoff games, 2 of those games to the likes of Baker Mayfield and Blake Bortles

I don't know what people expect. NE is a dumpster fire on offense, but without Watt, who is the engine that drives this defense, they are hanging in there.
