Thanks for your question, to find out more about specific degrees and what they have to offer you can sign up for the Virtual Open Day - https://www.leeds.ac.uk/homepage/59/undergraduate_open_days This would provide a great opportunity to speak to staff from the department to get a better insight into what a Spanish degree at Leeds could offer you.

Hello, appologies for your wait. From personal experience, I have friends who have been able to work whilst studying dentistry during their first three years. After that they have not continued to work due to the incraesed university demand. There are a lot of part time and flexible jobs working for the university. They are understanding of the demands on you, unlike some employers may be.

For the question regarding how often you can work in the life of a dental student ?

Hi there – our geography courses are very competitive which is reflected in the entry requirements. The University does take a holistic approach in selecting students – a combination of your predicted grades/your personal statement/relevant work experience so it would worthwhile to contact admissions in the School of Geography to discuss your circumstances:
 https://environment.leeds.ac.uk/geography
You can also register for our virtual open day where you will be able to speak to academics and current undergraduates:

The geography course I am interested in requires AAA. Is this a definite, or is it possible to get on to the course with slightly lower grades? I have looked at other options, but don't fit the "Access to Leeds" criteria.

Hi, thank you for your patience with our answers. There are different accommodations with different pricing tariffs specifically for people with varying circumstances. Questions regarding rent and personal circumstances can be addressed to accom@leeds.ac.uk

Can the university reduce the price of rent given your circumstances?

How many scholarships are offered for each course and how many people typically apply for each on average?

It is incredibly likely that you will find people to live with during your 2nd year and 3rd year, through university courses, societies and friends you’ve made in other ways. However, if you are struggling to find accommodation you could speak to Student Advice Service in the student’s union, or Uni-Pol or the student accommodation team.

Will the university help you finding housing after your first year?

During your time at the university, there will be many opportunities offered for new students to meet new people by getting involved in different activities or events run by the university.

Will we still get to meet lots of different people?

The choice of University halls can seem overwhelming at first with so many to choose between, but you are able to choose if you want a shared bathroom or en-suite. Most students want en suite accommodation, close to campus, but we have a limited number of these rooms. So we try to take their preferences into consideration, offering eg an en suite room a little further from campus, or a room in a residence close to campus with a bathroom shared with other students. Like most other universities, we unfortunately can't guarantee your preferred residence, as some residences are heavily oversubscribed. We do everything we can to make the process fair. We don’t allocate on a “first come, first served” basis, but use a computerized auto-allocation system to select impartially from the applicants for each residence.

Anyone advice for people struggling to find the right accommodation?

With regards to studying facilities affected by the current circumstances, some of the student accommodations provide effective alternative areas for students. However, currently alternatives have not been highlighted with regards to the availability of study facilities.

Will the accommodation be set up for being able to study in effectively due to covid as libraries and other spaces may not be open straight away
Ailsa Mackenzie

Around 75% of our students get the accommodation they choose on their application if they put the University of Leeds as their first choice. If you do not get your first choice accommodation because it is oversubscribed, they will match the closest accommodation to the criteria you provided eg en suite or same sex flat.

Hi, having applied for accommodation. I have been told that the accommodation  you apply for, it is not guaranteed that you may get it. Once results come out and say if you don’t get your preferred residence. Will there be support from the university into helping you find another suitable accommodation?

Unfortunately, our school of medicine does not offer lower entry grades in place of having an EPQ, however I’d recommend mentioning it in your personal statement.

Leeds is a really vibrant and multi-cultural city, this is reflected in the university campus. There are lots of places on campus and around campus to get amazing food, and there are lots of places in the city. I personally would recommend visiting Kirkgate market and checking out some of the food stands down there. There are also lots of places to hang out during the day and during the evening (on and off cmapus) - I’d recommend some, but the list would be really long. I moved from Ireland to Leeds over ten years ago to study and I love the atmosphere of the city and the university.

What is the atmosphere here like? Are there lots of places to eat, drink and associate during the day and at night?

We’re taking measures to ensure you feel safe and confident about staying in our accommodation and we’re sure you’ll soon feel at home.
We’re introducing a staggered and contactless arrivals process, as well as effective social distancing measures, so you’ll be able to meet new people and socialise in a safe way. All our residences will be cleaned more regularly and hand sanitiser will be provided for you to use.
Our experienced accommodation team will also be available to help you, offering advice and support to keep you safe and well. Don’t forget, we guarantee single University accommodation for your first year as long as you apply by the 1 July 2020 deadline. We also guarantee that as an international undergraduate you can apply to stay in University accommodation for the duration of your course (application deadlines apply).

If our course is mostly online and the social aspect of university is still limited due to covid-19 would we be expected to still move into accomodation for the first term?

There are number of jobs available at the University. You can work in the Union as a shop/cafe assistant or you can work as a student ambassador for your faculty or the University as a whole which is very flexible and easy to work around your studies.

Hi, are there jobs available in the university for people who wish to have a job whilst at uni ? Thanks

Hi, thank you for your patience. Your personal statement is really important to give the person reading your application more of an insight into what your interests are and your experience. Your personal statement is there to show your strengths. If you and other students had the exact same grades, it will be your personal statement which will help the person reading your application decide who will receive an offer.  More detail on personal statements can be found here. https://www.leeds.ac.uk/info/130580/supporting_students/810/online_pre...

Hi Ron, thank you for your patience.

There are many reasons why you should consider the University of Leeds as a chocie for Medicine.
