Hi everyone
10:22
This is a great way to have an online remote learning discussion with pupils and can form the basis for some great writing.
Feel free to jump in if you are on the blog now.

Good evening!

10:28
Hi David. Thanks for jumping in.
DeputyMitchell

No worries.

With so many international friends and colleagues facing lockdown, I thought I'd draw attention to a blog that can be used to help aid learning.
10:30
You've used Jotcast so many times in your wide ranging work on blogging. What ideas do you mind sharing, please?
DeputyMitchell
10:31
Ways to use Jotcast? Or blogging?
Ian Rockey
10:31
Both would be superb, thank you.
DeputyMitchell
10:33
In terms of Jotcast, once your students know how to use is the possibilities are endless!
here’s a link to a live writing session I did yesterday.
Ian Rockey
10:35
This is a brilliant example of writing for a purpose using a prompt with you able to give feedback.
DeputyMitchell
10:35
A creative writing session based on 4-5 images.
Ian Rockey
10:36
Do you find that this engages some learners that maybe a traditional writing session may not?
DeputyMitchell
10:39
Absolutely!! Pair the students in mixed ability pairs for best results!

We covered blogging in our radio show last night. What tips could you give for anyone considering the platform for a lesson.

ESafety session using this detailed here too. Just swap Coveritlive for Jotcast. Aim: To not always believe who you are speaking to when online: https://clusterblogging.net/blog/tag/safer-internet-day/

Fantastic, thank you.

Tips...
10:44
  1. Ensure you are familiar with a platform like Jotcast. Create one, tell a friend, experiment adding images and using the ‘reply’ function.
10:45
2.Have your images ready in a folder to upload
10:46
3.Do not use the messaging service! Keep all communication open and public in the main window.
10:48
4.Don’t call it a chat window! Call it a live writing window or something more formal.
10:49
Jotcast is a great tool to digitally hot seat a character! Or with Early Years pupils, to catch up with Santa!

Fantastic ideas, thank you David. I have tried this and it works so well!
I have included gravity forms on this blog that don't require a login. Hopefully this will help educators.
DeputyMitchell
10:51
Also great to get a visitor into your classroom for a Q&A session! We’ve had Sky News presenters, politicians, England footballer, Authors and many other experts involved in these sessions from as far away as 5000 miles!
Ian Rockey
10:51
This is something that could easily be facilitated for a remote learning session, thank you!
10:53
Are there ways to bring maths into the blog, as that is something not immediately obvious?
DeputyMitchell
10:54
Also, the subs at sports competitions run these to offer live commentary with parents who aren’t able to attend getting involved. If on an iPad, the students can add live pictures too!
10:55
Maths, absolutely!! It is all about audience. Videos of problem solving, Padlet saying 39 is the answer what is the question? Links being sent out to Rachel Riley and/or other famous mathematicians.
Ian Rockey
10:56
Brilliant. Love https://padlet.com/ How many free padlets can users have free now?
DeputyMitchell
10:56
You can also host times table videos from YouTube or explanation videos for parents/pupils etc.
10:58
Only 3 free Padlets. Little tip: Have a blogging folder in your top drawer, use the ‘share’ then ‘export as pdf’ function then print it off and stick it in your folder as evidence before deleting to free up space.
Ian Rockey
10:58
Great tip. Thank you.
11:00
Thanks so much for joining me David, this has been so useful and a great resource for educators.
