Carla says there has been in marketing and comm for 25 years. She has had exposure in South Africa for a company just dipping their toes in digital media. Now she finds herself in an integrated Communications company with a history in PR. She won't call herself an expert. The environment is rapidly changing. Everyday there's a new platform to explore. finds herself at the crossroads of traditional and new forms of marketing.

Steven says that his perspective will be from a career which is varied. He has been in consulting also. Now he wants to disrupt the traditional markets like how Square Space is doing.

Erin says that she is an expert in 'adapting'. One day you're really good at one thing and the next day everything changes. Her background is in paid search and analytics. she wanted to be an actress. Finally she ended up working in a digital marketing company for Broadway. she's trying her hand in management consulting now.

On asking about the focus on experience or interpersonal connection because we are so digitally connected,
Steven says that “As business leaders we are telling stories trying to convey information and the ability to have digital assets which tells us those stories in more powerful and digital way is very transformative - we can tell stories to people through Powerpoint presentations.”

Adding on to this, he says “For entrepreneurs the nee technology empowers you in a different way that it did 20-30 years ago.”

Javier carries the conversation forward by saying that he has networked across Asia, Europe Australia.
  • They are seeing three distinct trends- 1) adoption of driverless car that is giving the streets back to the people 2) co-working which is changing the way businesses are taking real estate decisions 3) retail is being less about transaction and more about customer experience

George adds that he has been in Bank of America. He has been in financial services for north of 20 years. A lot of people interact with BoA in various ways- apps, internet, others. His personal connection to digital is different. He's fascinated by how digital is influencing society. They are 'pretty quick', but not quick enough because they are a heavily regulated institution.
Are the benefits of digital media for young children limited, when used extensively and without guidelines?

Reshan contributes to the discussion by saying,'Accidental CEO and co-founder of a software company.'                             His angle on Communication and digital is that his company is focussed on how emerging technologies especially those which allow people to be more visual will be used to support and amplify the connection with people over distance. Started in education, how young people can communicate their understanding and ultimately it spawned into other industries. the company is 4 years old and is used all across the world.

'What are some of the hallmarks of digital media?" , asks the moderator.

Erin adds by saying, 'Much like love and data. Digital media is a much abused word.'

"Accidental CEO and co founder of a small software company. His angle on Com and Digi is that his company is focused on how emerging tech especially those that allow ppl to he more visual and mediate time and amplify connection," says Reshan in reply to the moderator.
"If you're in advertising there's a big break between the media industry and the creative industry," says Erin to add to the discussion.

Erin sheds some light on this subject by saying,"Another is social media- that's media that you watch on your phone. Then there's news media and broadcast media. Any channel can be used to communicate to people. If it's a creative agency they'll be making beautiful things, if it's a company with many acronyms in their name they'll do data analytics."

Talking about advantages of digital media, George says that “First I was in a job where I used to hand out memos but now I think about tweeting, getting emails out quickly and there’s a lot of socialisation.”
The moderator takes the discussion forward by asking "For careers in Digital Media, what are some of the trends advantages draws from digital media searching for jobs?"

When asked, "What are some of the trends and advantages of working in digital media?"
Carla replies by saying that one of the most creative outlets there are. 'It can pretty much open the door to any company'. A lot of the content curation happening within companies. Creative studios are producing their own content.
George remarks, 'From what I do, I look back when we are sending memos...but I was still in communicating to all 25000 Leeman brother employees.'
Adding on to this, he says, “Now, my consuming of information is so different and I need to stay on top of it. Digital media is exhilarating, ever-changing.”

"My connection to how I think about sharing information and consuming information... it's exhilarating and ever-changing' in BoA we would want more people with these skills who can understand the structure and get things done," adds George.
