Skubal, maybe. He's hoping to start a throwing program in January.
12:59
Mize is a little more questionable. He underwent Tommy John in June. Typical recovery time is 12-18 months but it's rare to get the short end of that, especially for a starter. They usually take longer.

Do you think Correa would accept the offer the Tigers made last year?  10 year $275M.
Darragh McDonald
1:00
Probably, but I don't think they'll make it now. It made sense when they thought they were close to contention. With the injuries to the rotation, it makes far less sense.

If the Dodgers were to release Belli, is this someone that the Tigers should be looking to gamble on?
Darragh McDonald
1:02
It's not a perfect fit because Bellinger's best trait right now is his center field defense and the Tigers will be using Greene there.
But a slightly different player in a similar situation, sure.
1:03
Hunter Renfroe, if the Brewers non-tender him, perhaps?

Tigers pitching for next year... Skubal, Mize and maybe Manning on IL, do they go sign a couple veteran inning eaters?  Tallion and T. Anderson?
Darragh McDonald
1:04
Yeah, I think grabbing a few starters makes sense. It depends how much they're willing to invest.
My guess is that they'll try to stick to one-year deals and save the big spending for after 2023. That probably means they'll be a notch below Taillon and Anderson.
1:05
But if those guys or some similar guys end up lingering on the market and are willing to settle for a pillow deal, sure, do it.

Why not resign Barnhart as catcher?  As a hitter, he stunk last year but he handled the young staff extremely well.  That should be worth a offer to return.  I just can't see Haase as a full time catcher.
Darragh McDonald
1:06
Yeah, I could see it. Haase has much better offensive numbers than on defense. It makes sense to have a glove-first partner.
Maybe it depends how healthy Jake Rogers is.

How challenging will it be to settle on the 40 man before the rule 5 draft?
Darragh McDonald
1:08
Yeah, there could be some turnover coming. Roster Resource lists their 40-man at 47 right now.
Once the World Series ends and there's no more IL, they'll have to do some roster churning, even before adding guys at Rule 5 time.

What could I have done better?
Darragh McDonald
1:10
I wouldn't focus so much on the manager when so much went wrong elsewhere. Only one starter was good/healthy enough to make 20 starts, which was Skubal.
Even he didn't make it to the end of the season unscatched.
Drew Hutchison came in second on the team in games started with 18.

Are all 100 Tiger fans here in the chat room?
Darragh McDonald
1:11
Haha. Up to 137!
Maybe some Pirates fans are still here from yesterday.

Hands down favorite story of the year on this site was the Austin Meadows one. Gusty stuff on his part to come out like that. How's he doing?
Darragh McDonald
1:12
Not sure how he's doing now, but I agree that it was great to see him be so forthcoming about his struggles. I'm sure that wasn't easy to do.

What is the latest on Matt Manning?    Hopefully he may not need surgery and may be ready to strut his stuff in 2023?
Darragh McDonald
1:13
The latest update on Manning was a little unclear, but somewhat eyebrow raising.
1:14
The Tigers said they scratched him from his last start out of an abundance of caution, but the last update was that he was going for a second opinion on his arm.
That doesn't necessarily mean anything. But usually, a person gets a second opinion because they don't like the first one they got.

Should the Tigers consider adopting the Braves contract strategy with Tork and Greene? Lock them up on 10 year deals at discounted AAV pricing?
Darragh McDonald
1:16
Theoretically, they should consider it. But they'd probably like to see a bit of major league success first.
1:17
Those early extensions are nice when they work out but they're not slam dunks. Look at Scott Kingery, Evan White, etc.

Sounds like the Twins could move Urshela. Do you think they’d move him to a division rival and at what cost prospect-wise?
Darragh McDonald
1:18
Urshela would be a nice fit for the Tigers, sure. But I don't think the Tigers want to be moving prospects for rentals right now.
1:19
Urshela is a free agent after 2023.
