Who do you see as the best hiring Scott Harris made this offseason, and why?
Darragh McDonald
11:26
I would imagine that there's a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes right now. Upgrading analytics department and scouting and whatnot.
11:27
Harris is roughly 30 years younger than Avila and is coming from some more analytically-inclined orgs. The most significant changes to the club might be happening in those back rooms.

Isn't it reasonable to predict that the Tigers will win more than the 77 games they won in 2021 as they upgraded the team right after that season and simply had a ridiculous amount of injuries last year? There were 11 starting pitchers hurt, several in the pen, and every position, but catcher had at least one injury. Yes the offense under performed but they were hurt as well.

It's theoretically possible but it's not like the 2022 issues have just vanished.
Mize and Skubal are each going to miss significant time this year as well.
Tork could bounce back but the expectations have to change based on last year.

Who will be left standing when the dust settles at 3rd?
Jim Leyland
11:29
Miguel Cabrera 235 plate appearances?  What do you take for the over/under?
Aurelio Rodriguez

Who will be the opening day third basemen?
Mitchell
11:30
Who do you think wins the open third base competition this spring?
Darragh McDonald
11:30
I would guess it's Maton to start. He was really good last year, both in the majors and Triple-A.
Strikeouts on the high side but he also gets on base.
11:31
If he struggles, he still has one option left.

Who is trade bait for the Tigers at the deadline, and how many trades could you see them making?
Darragh McDonald
11:32
Anyone nearing free agency would be a candidate if they're playing well.
So, Boyd, Lorenzen, Schoop, Cisnero.
11:33
Turnbull and Meadows are free agents after 2024.

How do you rate Riley Greene defensively?  He’s made a lot of highlight reels with the diving catches. Is that on account of good jumps or bad jumps?
Darragh McDonald
11:35
I tend to trust Outs Above Average a bit more than the other metrics, and he got a +2 from them last year.
11:36
His jumps were in the 75th percentile, so pretty good.

Who will be the breakout player for the Tigers this season? Can you Pick one pitcher & one hitter please. Thank you.
Darragh McDonald
11:38
I'll go with Kerry Carpenter and Alex Lange.
Scott Harris
11:38
Should I sign Will Smith to a major or minor league contact?
Darragh McDonald
11:38
Sure! Smith is pretty good and the Tigers could give him a spot, but so could many other teams.

What is the general feeling regarding 2924
Darragh McDonald
11:40
The Earth is mostly ash but the Tigers are pretty good.

If the Tigers have another horrible season, does Hinch get kicked?
Darragh McDonald
11:41
I would be surprised. It's not like they're going into the season with high hopes of making the postseason or anything. I think everyone is aware that this is a wait-and-see year.

The Tigers were underwhelming, but Scott Harris FLEECED Dave Dombrowski in the Kody Clemens/Gregory Soto trade...The bench player for Soto should have came from Clearwater, so getting Nick Maton and Matt Vierling was a steal
Darragh McDonald
11:42
It's a bit early to declare winners and losers, but I'm generally on your side. Soto's been okay but walks a ton.

Is 2023 gonna be what 2022 was supposed to be? Will Tork step up? Will the young pitching staff come together? Will Javy stop swinging at everything?
Darragh McDonald
11:43
I would love to see it! I always root for the long-struggling clubs.
It was so nice for the O's to have a non-trash season last year. I hope the same for the Tigers.

Who will lead this team in saves this year?
Darragh McDonald
11:44
I'm guessing Lange.

Scott Harris seems to be taking the same approach that he and Farhan Zaidi did with the Giants, including signing a number of playersg that those two signed in SF. Is there any reason to think that it will work out better for Detroit than it has thus far for SF?
