The Giants won 107 games in 2021.
11:45
They fell back to earth last year but still finished at .500. It's not like they're a colossal failure or anything.

What are the expectations for Spencer Turnbull this season?
Darragh McDonald
11:47
Depends on his health but he was on a really good trajectory prior to the injury.

I’m going to the tigers for 10 years 50 million

Big scoop!
hello
11:48
Thanks for doing this chat! Could the tigers open up the checkbook next off-season?
Darragh McDonald
11:49
I think it's possible, sure, if they see encouraging signs this year.

Which of the young players recently received in the bullpen trades is expected to have the greatest long term impact?
Darragh McDonald
11:50
It's probably between Maton and Vierling.

Should the Tigers consider scooping up a late free agent like Jurickson Profar?
Darragh McDonald
11:51
Adding Profar now would be a bit tricky because it probably means taking at-bats away from someone like Carpenter, Baddoo or Vierling.
Perhaps an injury could change things, however.

Do you have any insight into organizational changes?  The Tigers haven't had a great record of developing players, and that's a requirement for success.  I've heard chater about changes but don't have a sense of whether they really are geeting to be an org than can draft and develop well
Darragh McDonald
11:52
I don't know specifics but I get the sense they are trying to improve these behind-the-scenes things, yes.
They seem to be aware they need to improve in the player development department and will be looking to get better there, as far as I can tell.

Does moving the fences help with hitters confidence and / or psyche ?
Darragh McDonald
11:53
I wouldn't have thought so, but some players have said that it does get in their head. So, I guess so?

What is a reasonable amount that the tigers should spend each year?   Compared to teams they’re market size.
Darragh McDonald
11:54
Back in their last competitive window, the Tigers ran payrolls around 200MM in 2016 and 2017.
Ownership hasn't changed and everything Harris has said seems to indicate spending will go back up once they feel the time is right to strike.
11:55
I'm fully expecting the Tigers to be big spenders once they feel the player development pipeline is in better shape.

Do you think any of the tigers non-roster invitees or waiver claims  with break camp with the team? Seems like more of a team for younger guys to get opportunities. Also, thanks for doing this!
Darragh McDonald
11:55
Definitely seems like there's room for some NRIs in the bullpen. Probably Shreve and Wisler, I would guess.
11:56
Knapp could come up if they need a catcher.
Cesar Hernandez probably makes the team at some point.

What is your grade for the Tigers off season?   They unloaded a couple of good RPs. And picked up some young bench pieces.  Possible starters on our team.

I think it was fine given the circumstances. They didn't "win" the offseason but the trades and signings made sense. They improved depth with all the waiver claims. I wasn't expecting much more. I'd give it a C.
11:59
Okay, that's all I have time for today.
Keep your eye out for the other team chats. I think we have about 27 left.

We also have some exciting player chats coming up soon.
And if you want even more chats, there are extras just for Front Office subscribers. It's much easier to get a response in those because there are fewer people.
There are plenty of other benefits as well, which you can check out here...
Have a good one!
