Sometimes brawls are entertaining in a visceral way, but I think the game would be better if guys were somehow convinced to not try to injure each other by throwing 95 mph baseballs at body parts.
Home run rate

It's easy to get caught up in home runs being hit early in a season, but of Molina, LeMahieu and J. Lowrie who have early season homer surprise numbers, which do you believe is the more legitimate power threat?
Tim Dierkes
2:41
Slight lean toward Lowrie over Yadi.

Any tradeable pieces on the Reds. Maybe Gennett to make room for Senziel. Definitely Iglesais. Bailey off to a decent start. If Reds paid half maybe a chance.  Think Votto will run out of patience and look for a new home
Tim Dierkes
2:43
Surprising to see Bailey look good 3/4 starts...maybe the old Homer is back.  He is owed $35MM through 2019...ouch.  Reds would have to pay down half of that.  Iglesias is a prize, Gennett and Hamilton can be useful.  Votto seems like he's happy where he is.

Why do most people think Harper or machado r going to be Yankees. Offense they have the Yankees should go after these three pitchers. A reunion with Andrew miller and sign Dallas Keuchel and Patrick Corbin is what I would if I were cashman and hal

2:43
Why not set your sights on the ultimate prize for a rotation-needy team, Clayton Kershaw?
Scuffy McGee
2:44
Has Yoan Moncada been a big disappointment in your eyes?
Tim Dierkes
2:44
I wouldn't make that conclusion after 12 games.  His debut last year went fairly well.

Would you try to trade Abreu at the deadline or do you agree with this Sox that he is too important to the clubhouse and the development of guys like Moncada and Robert to move right now?  If he isn't moved do you think the Sox should be comfortable letting him walk for nothing or would he warrant an extension as a large 1B in his mid 30s (by that point)?
Tim Dierkes
2:45
I like Hahn's strategy...he's willing to take either path.  They don't have a young 1B knocking down the door, so why not enjoy all the good things about Abreu until or if they get an offer they can't refuse.
Derek Jeter
2:45
Is there anyone left on this roster worth trading besides Realmuto and Straily?
Tim Dierkes
2:46
There's also Wei-Yin Chen on the horizon, plus Prado, Ziegler, Bour, Dietrich...I'm guessing anyone with more than three years of service is fair game.  There is more stripping down to do.  The team can be even less watchable than it is.

Are we stuck with Cabrera and VMart?
Tim Dierkes
2:48
Looks like Miggy is owed $172MM through 2023.  Wow, that is really bad.  I was trying to find a way to say that a resurgent Miggy could be foisted on someone, but nah.  This former great is just going to play out the string in Detroit.  Same for V-Mart.

Am I on track to be the biggest FA bust for a closer?
Tim Dierkes

Have we already forgotten about Mel Rojas?

My farm system is putrid.  My big league team is putrid.  How much longer can I go?  And should I dangle Salvy to see if there are any legit offers?
Tim Dierkes
2:50
The direction is pretty clear.  The Salvy thing is tough.  He's one of the team's stronger veteran assets but also one of few reasons to continue watching.  Not that he'd bring a Chris Sale-like return, but the Royals may need to make that type of decision and market him.
2:51
Anyone got other terrible free agent closer deals?
JNP
2:51
In another 15 games or so, can we get away from small sample size and start to project how team or players perform.
Tim Dierkes
2:51
I like to get a month on the books, and then just multiply everything by 6.  But really, a month is pretty small too, often just five starts for an SP or 100 PA.

I didn’t mention kershaw is because you don’t know if he he will opt out of the last two year and the other three pitchers I mention will be free agents after the season
Tim Dierkes
2:52
True, the Dodgers could extend him.  But you put him #1 on the list and cross him off if they do.

Did you ever go to a Kane County Cougars game when they were affiliated with the Cubs? I know there are a lot more business considerations than locations when partnering with a minor league team, but that one seemed a perfect fit.
Tim Dierkes
2:53
Yes I did!  I got to see Kyle Schwarber in his brief time there.  That is the closest minor league stadium to my house and I was bummed to see them change the affiliation.  Minor league baseball is kind of hard to care about if you don't think you're looking at your team's future players, at least for me.  I'll still go to some games each year because of the convenience compared to trekking to Wrigley.

Disagree on Shields. Padres are eating sizeable chunk of his salary plus his performance has improved a decent amount since changing his arm slot last August. Not saying he'll bring lots back, but should get more than Tim Dierkes' bag of dirty socks
Tim Dierkes
2:55
Regardless of his salary, I just can't think of a 36-year-old with zero chance of cracking of a playoff rotation bringing back anything interesting.  Though I guess the counterargument is Shields himself bringing Tatis to the Padres.  That was only two years ago and of course Tatis was a diamond in the rough.

Which rumor mill fixture has hurt his trade value the most so far?
Tim Dierkes
2:58
Searching for a good answer here.  Maybe Elvis Andrus?  He's not a rumor mill fixture, but the injury shakes up his potential market a bit.

I love Ichiro, but do you think all these clunker seasons he's had has tarnished his legacy?  OPS isn't the end all-be all, and probably not all that valuable for a guy who has hit 3000 singles in his career, but a .758 career is really just a tad above average.
Tim Dierkes
2:59
Not for me.  I respect a player who hangs around as long as he possibly can.  I think it demonstrates a love for the game.  Say what you will about Manny Ramirez, but the dude is 45 and he plays for the Kōchi Fighting Dogs.

The Giants gave Armando Benitez 3/21 to be pretty terrible and injured for them.

Should I be worried about the offense? The pitching can't carry us for 162 games
Tim Dierkes
3:01
I expect Lindor, EE, and Kipnis to find their levels.  Certainly Jose Ramirez is much better than this.  Has to be more from Alonso.  Just bad luck to have everyone slumping at once.

What 34+ year old player will have a surprisingly all-star caliber season?
Tim Dierkes
3:03
Is Verlander a cop-out?  It's hard to find a player that age to get excited about.
Question
3:03
Not a FA deal, but the Red Sox gave up Ivan De Jesus, Mark Melancon, Stolmy Pimentel and Jerry Sands for Joel Hanrahan
