One idea I've seen for the Red Sox clearing payroll is trading David Price.  I find that at least more plausible than this.

The Nats have to be the odds on favorite to sign Strasburg, correct? I’d put the odds at 80%. He just doesn’t feel like a truly available free agent target.
Tim Dierkes
10:54
I think 80% is too high, simply because he's out in the market now and someone could certainly blow him away.  But I generally agree with your thinking.

I loved your assessment of potential Reds targets, but would it be more feasible for them to see if they can get a deal with Colorado for Story to play SS and maybe spend less for a Starling Castro to play 2B? Thank-you
Tim Dierkes
10:55
Making a play for Story would be a great idea for the Reds.

Will I be move to another team this off-season? Maybe Yankees?  Teams Looking for pitching?
Tim Dierkes
10:56
No, I think the White Sox are in "put up or shut up" mode now and really need to push to contend in 2020.  The rebuild has to end now.

Why weren't the A's listed as a potential team for any of the top 50? Not the expected signed team, just even a potential option!
Tim Dierkes
10:57
I'd say lack of spending capacity and a feeling that they'll look more at free agents outside of the top 50 for things like a LH hitting backup catcher.  Keep in mind that guys at the Brett Anderson level didn't make the list.

I see you’re prediction is Ozuna to the Giants, who would then fill in the Cardinals outfield?
Tim Dierkes
10:57
I think they'll just keep the spot warm until they want to call Dylan Carlson up.
Ozuna
10:58
Do you think I be re-sign by the Cardinals or should I just take the 1 year QO?
Tim Dierkes
10:58
If I was him I'd seriously consider accepting.  But he has ten days to see whether a decent offer will be out there.

Angels need a catcher...Travis D’Arnaud???
Tim Dierkes
10:59
Reasonable enough.  We found there are more teams needing a starting catcher than there are starting catchers on our list, though.

Wouldn’t it be a huge letdown for Braves fans going from Donaldson to Moose and a lateral move with Keuchel to Hamels? Seems if they get them there should be one more splash.
Tim Dierkes
10:59
Has Braves ownership ever let you down in the offseason before?

Does it now “make cents” for Angels to resign Calhoun at say $7MM for 1yr?
Tim Dierkes

I think just save the money, use Brian Goodwin until Jo Adell is ready.

I do find it a bit odd that you have Tanner Roark ahead of Julio Tehran when Roark has pitched to a 4.24 ERA or higher in 5 straight seasons and Tehran has pitched to an under 4.00 ERA in 5 out of the last 7 seasons. Why so?
Tim Dierkes
11:02
Mainly Teheran's deteriorating profile, with so many walks and declining velocity.  Roark is no spring chicken but I don't think ERA tells the story here, and I generally see Roark as a better bet in 2020.

In your opinion, what are the chances Gerrit Cole wears pinstripes next year?
Tim Dierkes

10-15%
Marlins Need Love From MLBTR Too
11:02
I see the mention of the Marlins signing Avisail Garcia, which is something I've thought about too and agree as a current fit, but I saw that you have South Floridian Nick Castellanos going for 4yrs/$58m to the White Sox. If Castellanos was available for that money and years, wouldn't it be possible that the Marlins would look at making a play for him at his age instead of Garcia?
Tim Dierkes
11:03
Yes indeed.  Loving all the Marlins questions by the way!!!

Let's say the Yankees strike out (pun intended) with Cole and Strasburg. Who should they go after?
Tim Dierkes
11:03
Corey Kluber.

Whats your average correct guess rate over 14 seasons?
Tim Dierkes
11:04
That sounds like a good project!  If we're just talking about the team picks, I can tell you for last winter...
11:05
We got six right.
11:06
So we batted .120.  We were Jeff Samardzija's 2019...as a hitter.
11:07
I think we probably peaked at maybe a dozen?
11:08
We had about 7,000 people enter our contest last year.  16 of them were able to get 10+ correct, and the winner had 13.
11:09
I'd say the picks are more for fun and discussion purposes, especially since many will be rendered unlikely or impossible in a few weeks.  We care more about the contract predictions, and with the team picks we hope that we at least list the correct team within the player's blurb as an option.
I really enjoyed this chat, but I gotta run!  Thanks for joining me.
