That's one of those comments that's hard to take at face value. Someone asks a contending team's GM, "Hey you think you could pursue an ace this winter?" ... they can't reply "Nah, we're good on No. 1 starters and don't need one."

I think they could look at a lot of trades... Manaea, Bassitt, Montas, Luis Castillo, Sonny Gray, a Marlins starter ... but I find it harder to believe they'd put down five years for Robbie Ray or sway Max Scherzer to sign there.

I'd note that's different, too, than Rangers front office and Tigers ownership saying in unprompted fashion they're going to spend aggressively
