I wanted McHugh on the list, but Tim also was right to point out that there's a big injury history, the velocity isn't exciting, and he's in his mid-30s
Tim Dierkes
2:21
McHugh had an awesome season.  I held him off given the lack of velocity.  But I think it'd have been...prudent...to put him on
Ed McW
2:21
We all know Anthopolous loves his 1 year deals. From Donaldson, Ozuna, Hamels, Morton etc etc. Would Greinke, Verlander, or other be the best bet to come to the reigning champs.
Tim Dierkes
2:21
I picked them for Conforto for this reason.  I'm good with Greinke or Verlander there, though I think they'd aim higher than Greinke.  And Jim Crane did indicate JV wants multiple years (which has to mean two?)
Steve Adams
2:22
They already signed Morton to another big one-year deal. Verlander seems fine there, but I wonder if some team will give him the second year, yeah. And he supposedly wanted to be on the West Coast the first time he was traded -- not that that's the be-all end-all in free agency.
Trea Turner’s Ghost
2:22
You don’t have the Nats in on any of the big shortstops even after clearing all the budget space at the deadline and leaving themselves a glaring hole after trading Trea?
Steve Adams
2:23
Tim's really down on the Nats spending anything so direct all your anger his way please and thank you
Tim Dierkes
2:23
We varied a bit on how we felt the Nats would act this winter.  I felt from Rizzo's comments they'll hold off on big commitments.
Steve Adams
2:23
Haha, I actually don't think they'll spend that heavily. But I do think they could be in on more mid-tier guys than TIm wanted to put them on. And Anthony likes them to splash around a bit (hence Schwarber)
jays fan
2:23
How about Noah Syndergaard to the jays on a one year deal for 18-20 million. Seems like a good place for him to rebuild his value. Less risky for the jays than giving Ray 5 years
Tim Dierkes
2:24
Would be a fun way to right the wrong of trading him.  But he seems like he'll accept a QO
Boras
2:24
Can I really expect Scherzer to really get that high an AAV? Or is the lower end more reasonable?
Tim Dierkes
2:24
We can see enough big market teams bidding to drive it there.  I will also note that Jim Bowden predicted a three-year, $150MM deal for Scherzer
Steve Adams
2:24
I think Scherzer is signing a record AAV.
2:25
Look at the teams that will want him, too
Dodgers, Giants, Angels ... easy to see a bidding war building up.
Dodgers/Giants is particularly fun to be bidding on the same guy. And maybe the Padres jump back in

only one cubs signing? I find that hard to believe guys
Steve Adams
2:26
They already claimed Miley, which is as good as a signing.
Tim Dierkes
2:26
There is a clear disconnect between what MLB Trade Rumors thinks the Cubs will do, and what Cubs fans think the Cubs will do.

if relievers are used so much in the post season, why are they not valued more in free angency?
Tim Dierkes
2:26
I think just the volatility...so few guys are good year after year.
Steve Adams
2:26
More volatile and injury prone, harder to predict year over year.

Jon Morosi just tweeted that Marcus Semien prefers west coast teams. Seems Mariners are a likely landing spot for him.
Tim Dierkes
2:27
See how quick my Red Sox pick fell apart?  I think Steve and Anthony were already thinking of that with the Dodgers/Angels picks
Steve Adams
2:27
He's from the Bay Area and recently spoke about how it can be hard to move away from home in free agency. I don't think Morosi's really saying anything all of us couldn't have inferred from context there.

what % do you see Conforto accepting the qo. Was hoping the jays would add him, seems like he could be bad at a reasonable price and would plug in nicely in to that core
Tim Dierkes
2:27
I'd give Conforto a 35% chance of accepting the QO.
Steve Adams
2:28
I'm closer to a coinflip, but I hate putting hard percentages on these things.
Nervous Nelly
2:28
I thought your projections for the guys in the #10-20 range were aggressive, given the strong possibility of a lock-out.  This offseason feels like it'll be musical chairs, with about a dozen chairs available for 50 top guys.  Do you agree that there's significant chance of seeing lots of 1-year deals in March for god players who, in a normal year, would have seen substantial multi-year offers?
Tim Dierkes
2:29
For me, the money is there and will certainly still be when the lockout ends.  It's not like a typical March where budgets have been spent.  So I don't see why guys should get squeezed out, in theory
2:30
We are operating without precedent, at least in MLBTR's 16-year history.  This is the first time we've reached free agency without a CBA in place.
Steve Adams
2:30
Yeah. I can see us being heavy on some of the picks, obviously, but at the end of the day there's going to be demand for these players and a heavy supply of them. Maybe some teams get some unexpectedly good deals, but I don't envision a lockout ending and then Marcus Semien, Marcus Stroman, Nick Castellanos etc. all taking like QO-valued free agent deals
Rocky

If nothing else happens this off season, the Tiger HAVE to come away with one of the big 5 SS (Correa, Seager, Story, Baez, Simien), right?  is there really any chance they DON'T?
Steve Adams
2:30
I'd be pretty shocked if they didn't sign one of the "big five" shortstops yeah
Yankees, too
Tim Dierkes
2:30
I'd be very surprised if the Tigers don't get one.  Maybe 10% chance of that

White Sox GM, Rick Hahn was on a local radio station today and said the Sox would be more than open and willing at pursuing a #1 starter this offseason. With Kopech entering the rotation this season, what realistic possibility the Sox could land an Ace this offseason and who would be a possibility through trade or free agency that fits that?
Tim Dierkes
2:31
Last question here...
I think a trade makes more sense there.  Time to bring Frankie Montas back.
