I don't love the fit, but I needed a JDM landing spot and think the price tag is within the realm of plausibility for Cleveland

Will these picks be the same picks you'll have for the contest? (Barring any deals  before the deadline.)
Steve Adams
11:26
Yeah -- barring any deals between now and then or some weird statement from a GM saying "We will not sign a catcher/shortstop" or whatever.

Have you guys thought about doing an MLBTR podcast? Maybe for paid subscribers? During Hot Stove season (when it's slow at my office anyway) I'd listen!
Steve Adams
11:29
We did have a podcast years ago! It was a lot of time commitment to have Jeff Todd spearheading it and me appearing on every episode when he and I were also spending 40+ hours a week doing content for the site.

We have a larger full-time team now and are angling to beef up our part-time staff; it's plausible that at some point, we revisit it. I did have fun with it.

You can check out most (maybe all?) the old eps here... assuming they're still live anyway, haha:

Also holy crap I cannot believe it's been six years since we cut the podcast. I feel 100 years old.
Swanson
11:29
I just don’t see Swanson going to the Cubs. Chicago is a ways off from contending. Dansby has now been on a perineal contender why join a rebuilding team. I still think he stays in Atlanta despite your payroll concerns
Steve Adams
11:30
That's fine. The Braves are totally plausible. I find a couple other scenarios more likely (Cubs, Twins, Red Sox), I guess. We shall see.

Do the Cards make a spash ? Who is catching ?
Steve Adams
11:30
In my fake alternate-reality offseason? Sean Murphy. (Or Danny Jansen)

Will the Rockies do anything noteworthy this off season?
Steve Adams
11:31
They're tracking toward a franchise-record payroll before they make a single move. I still think they'll sign some people -- I take it you are not excited by my riveting Michael Wacha pick! -- but I don't think it'll be like last year when they cannonballed into the Bryant market.
Ace

Would you rather have Verlander for 3/120 or Rodon for 5/140? JV had an undeniably great year, but the playoff struggles and age are a concern
Steve Adams
11:33
Either is defensible. It depends on the specific context of the team, I guess.

I'm pretty sold on Rodon as a top-10 pitcher in MLB at this point and feel that, health-permitting, he can hold that longer than Verlander, so I guess I lean that way, even with the extra risk associated on the longer deal
Os Fan
11:33
Some of the free agent pitchers like Taillon are predicted by you guys to possibly go to the Orioles. Wouldn’t the O’s preferably target more controllable pitchers via trade? They seem to have an excess of position players to trade with all the talent coming up, and last time they handed multi year contracts to pitchers in FA, it didn’t go so well. (Ubaldo, Cobb).
Steve Adams
11:34
It's not binary. They can sign a mid-range pitcher (Taillon) and still trade for another. They need arms. I think there's regression in store for some of the 2022 rotation members, and I'm as bullish on GrayRod as anyone, but his 2022 season is a good reminder not to bank too heavily on pitching prospects.

So a few of you had Justin Turner going back to The Dodgers for a 1 year 14 million contract. He just got bought out for 2 million so if he went back for 14 million that is the same price as the 16 million option. You all must be drunk makes no sense.
Steve Adams
11:36
Nah, I think it's just indicative of the Dodgers not wanting to tie all the money up right out of the gate. Wait to see what happens with Anderson's QO. Figure out Kershaw's price tag. Then circle back and see what feels right with Turner.
