Trade Rumors Front Office Chat

Maybe they trade for a random veteran who's blocked in Triple-A somewhere else (although calling up Chase Anderson might just be the play), but I don't think they're surrendering young talent for a rotation stopgap right now

What is the status of Max Meyer’s arrival in Miami? Does he go straight to the rotation or will the start him in the BP? As a starter what would you expect of him ROS when he does arrive.
Anthony Franco
3:50
Seems like they want him to step in the rotation when he comes up, probably in place of Hernández
3:51
I think he'll strike guys out but have real issues with walks and get hit hard by left-handed hitters. Probably a 4.50 ERA type as a rookie, although I've always been a little lower on Meyer than most

Are Mantiply (AZ-P) and/or Mitch White (LA-P) worth picking up now, even though they may not generate value until June or July?
Anthony Franco
3:52
I'm not sure what this is really in reference to, saves? Mitch White's just a depth guy. Mantiply's pitching well right now but I don't think he'll wind up being Arizona's closer, no
Adell
3:53
How am I doing at AAA. Will I get a shot soon in the outfield for the Angels soon
Anthony Franco
3:53
He's hitting well since going back to Salt Lake but there's no room in the everyday outfield right now
If Ward or Marsh got hurt, I think he'd be the first guy up, but right now he's better off just playing everyday there

I was watching last night’s MLB Game of the Week on YouTube, and gotta say, I’m liking some of the young talents in Pittsburgh. Ke’Bryan Hayes, David Bednar, Jack Suwinski, and Will Crowe all are exciting, and that’s not even to mention Onell Cruz. How long until the Pirates compete for a playoff spot?

Build towards respectability for the next two years with a real shot at hanging around the Wild Card by 2024 feels reasonable
3:55
They do have interesting pieces, but there are going to be growing pains with the prospects and the pitching staff is still really thin right now

Alejandro Kirk - good OBP but almost no fantasy production otherwise.  What's your take on him ROS?  I ask from an AL-only perspective.
Anthony Franco
3:56
He's never going to be a big power threat (or steals obviously). I do think the lineup around will be better for RBI and run production but I'm also concerned about the playing time once Jansen gets back

Regarding Bryce Harper: Any idea what % of plasma injections really work and thus avoid TJ surgery? Is it different for pitchers and position players?
Anthony Franco
3:57
It's a good question. I'd imagine the success rate is better for position players but I honestly have no idea
3:58
I will say that if Harper got to a point where he needed TJS, they'd probably just have him DH and conduct the surgery over the offseason. The return timetable for position players is definitely quicker than it is for pitchers

What would bogarts cost us
Anthony Franco
3:58
I don't think they'd sell low on Adell but maybe they're just done with him the way Oakland was done with Jesús Luzardo
3:59
More likely -- if Boston gets to a point where they're willing to move Boagerts, which isn't anytime soon -- it feels like something built around Bachman from the Angels perspective

Miguel Cabrera has, somewhat shockingly, been arguably the Tigers best hitter so far this year. What chance do you give him cracking the top 20 in career home runs this season (he’ll need 17 more, or 20 for the season).
Anthony Franco
4:00
I'd take the under because he's hitting so many ground-balls but he still hits the ball hard, so maybe 30%

Any chance that Patrick Corbin could get attached to Juan Soto? It just seems like the asking price would be so absurd otherwise. Would two top 100s and two good additional prospects get it done for Soto/Corbin?
Anthony Franco
4:00
Nah, Corbin's not going to be part of a Soto deal
Lo Cain
4:01
Do the Brewers end up designating Cain for assignment? If so, who do you think could come in to replace him? Joey Wiemer is having a great minor league season but he is only in double A
Anthony Franco
4:02
I think they like his clubhouse presence and glove too much to cut him entirely, but I think he'll continue to lose playing time to Tyrone Taylor
4:03
As you mentioned though, there aren't many good alternatives. It's not like Corey Ray's the answer, I don't think you can count on Wiemer to be good out of the gate
4:04
And the trade market for center fielders is rough. Maybe the Royals trade Michael Taylor? I wonder if they'd trade for Benintendi and kick him back to center since their pitching's so good anyways
Easier to live with bad defense when there's never a ball in play

4:05
Do you think Gavin Lux will ever be a 20 home run hitter?
Anthony Franco
4:05
I think he will have a season where he hits 20 homers in his career but I don't think he'll have a multi-year stretch where he averages 20+ homers if that makes sense

Do we need to trade for a SP
Anthony Franco
4:06
They'll probably be open to this because they're always looking for depth, but I wouldn't consider it a dire area of need or anything
Chip

Could you imagine if MLB added the NBA's policy that if you come off the bench and run on court during a confrontation you face a serious fine and possible suspension. Talk about speeding up a game watching the bullpen players trotting onto the field is absurd !!!!
Anthony Franco
4:07
Ha I like the idea of keeping the relievers screaming across bullpens at one another so they don't get suspended

Has the 2021-2022 Free Agent Prediction Contest been declared official at 49 selections with the exclusion of Conforto, or is it still open because of the possibility that some team might sign him to a deal that includes a low dollar amount for his surgical rehab 2022?
Anthony Franco

I don't know but I'll check with Tim. If he doesn't make an announcement on the site by next week, send me this question again in the chat and I'll have an answer for you then
Ok that's everything we've got for today
4:09
Thanks for hanging out, always enjoy these. Chat schedules have been in flux lately because we're moving around the coverage schedule constantly for various personal reasons
So I'm not sure exactly when we'll do this next, but it'll be at some point next week
