Trade Rumors Front Office Chat With Anthony Franco

As far as teams you didn't mention, maybe Arizona has another move or two coming? Nothing huge, but they clearly want to be more respectable than they were last year
Gavin Lux
2:20
Will I be with the Dodgers next season or traded for a SP
Anthony Franco
2:20
I think he's sticking around
Trea Turner
2:20
How hard will it be to resign me
Anthony Franco
2:21
He'll be expensive, should be in the Correa/Seager kind of AAV if he has another MVP-type season, although he's a bit older than those guys so maybe not over ten years?
2:22
But the Dodgers don't actually have a ton of money on the books (by their standards) after next season. So I think the opportunity to keep him around is there, it's just a question of whether they want to or would prefer to spread the money around a bit
Artie Moreno
2:22
Is it more likely that we sign a FA  pitcher or make a trade. Also, what would it cost to deal for one of the reds pitchers
Anthony Franco
2:23
I think the Angels' rotation would be alright with just a low-cost depth addition. I like the group they've got already
But if they're trying to land one of the Reds' guys, I wonder if a package built around Detmers gets talks rolling for two years of Castillo or Mahle
Joe Madden
2:24
I read that anthology Rendon can play second. Could we sign Chris Bryant to play third and move Rendon to second
Anthony Franco
2:24
Rendon hasn't started a game at second base in six years. He's coming off a career-worst year ended by hip surgery. I'd rather just leave him where he's comfortable personally

It sounds like AZ is going to stick with this one foot in, one foot out approach to competing. With so many holes to fill on that roster, would a trade that included Sheets and Burger plus some young pitching prospects be enough to get Martte to the White Sox?
Anthony Franco
2:25
No, Sheets and Burger are more complimentary types in a deal like that. If Arizona moves Marte -- and I don't think they will before the start of the season -- should be for a blue-chip centerpiece like Vaughn or Kopech
Chocolate Cylon
2:26
What do you think the Rays situation will be in 2028 regarding location/stadium?
Anthony Franco
2:26
Man, I don't know. Seems like they don't want to stay in Tampa, so I'll guess they leave, but I don't have any real idea where they'd go
2:27
Charlotte? I'll say Charlotte, but it's 100% a wild guess

Hi, Anthony.  These weekday chats are terrific, especially for retired fans like me.  I read recently that the Braves players' "pot" for winning the World Series was the highest ever.  However, I didn't see figures.  Do you have a breakdown, or are you able to direct me to a source for that info?  Thanks!
Anthony Franco
2:27
I didn't hear about this, but it seems like you're right
2:28
From the AP last month
Rangers13
2:28
Where do you see as being likely destinations for Kiner Falefa and Solak.
Anthony Franco
2:29
I'll say the Angels or Yankees for IKF. Solak probably just sticks around as second base/outfield utility guy
Maybe someone like the White Sox or Phillies trades for him to do that same kind of thing, but it feels likelier he just sticks with Texas

Do you think Shane Baz makes the team out of Spring Training (if there is a spring Training)?
Anthony Franco
2:30
They started McClanahan back in Durham for a month last year. I think that's probably what happens with Baz too
2:31
Doesn't mean he can't get 120 innings over the course of the year
Crash
2:31
Are any of the Bluejay’s infield prospects viable options to contribute at the major league level this season?
Anthony Franco
2:31
Yeah, Groshans should be up after like a month if he starts well in Buffalo
Don't think we're seeing Orelvis this year though

I admit up front that the following is proof positive that I'm nuts. That said, is there an ice cube's chance in hell that the Ricketts family would sell? Would they avail an ownership opportunity to someone who actually gives a genuine damn about building a sustainable winner and a truly happy fan base? (I SAID I was nuts at the outset.)
Anthony Franco
2:32
Ha yeah, don't see that one happening
Rays Rotation
2:32
Do you think Kluber will throw more than 120 innings?
Anthony Franco
2:32
I'd take the under given his age and recent health record
Brian Peters
2:32
I am not a Cubs fan who believes the Cubs will play in the deep end of free agency. That said, what middle-tier shortstops do you think are in play for them once the lockout is over?
Anthony Franco
2:32
If you're not going for Correa or Story, might as well stick with Hoerner at that point
2:33
Is there any real purpose to signing Andrelton Simmons in a year where you're not going to be competitive? I'd rather see if Hoerner can actually play shortstop regularly for a season then

2:33
Post lock-out, pre Spring training, there is going to be a frenzy as teams have to move quickly to get who they want. Who are some of the candidates likely to profit from this and get contracts above projections? I am specifically thinking of Kyle Schwarber as an example. By your projections, Kyle Schwarber is sort of a budget-friendly Nicholas Castellanos. Lots of teams appear to have need and interest in him. In addition to the obvious--barely good enough defense combined with a big bat--everyone seems to talk about what a great teammate he is. Is he a candidate to do signicantly better than projected
Anthony Franco
2:34
On the one hand, I think you're right that Schwarber and Castellanos should be closer together. I pushed for that in deliberations with Tim and Steve at the start of the offseason (albeit more so to move the latter down than to push the former way up)
2:35
That said, Tim and Steve argued (justifiably) that Castellanos just feels like a better player, even if their respective numbers aren't that much different. And it seems like that's borne out in the asking prices
2:36
Pre-lockout reports had Castellanos shooting for seven or eight years and Schwarber asking for like 3/60
