Trade Rumors Front Office Chat With Anthony Franco

A work stoppage that costs them games this year might change their opinion, but in the sense that his primary job is to make the league better for the owners, he's done a fine job
3:00
From a fan perspective, not so much. The animosity -- both during the COVID delay and during the current lockout -- looks really bad for the game. I haven't liked a lot of the rule changes MLB leadership has put into play lately either, although that's largely a matter of personal aesthetic taste
Rangers13
3:01
Rangers need an OF and tradeable pitcher at deadline. What would Orioles want for Hays and Means or Rays for Margot and Yarbrough.
Anthony Franco
3:02
The ask on Hays on Means would be quite a bit higher than that on Margot and Yarbrough
3:03
The Baltimore one probably requires at least of the top few prospects in the organization. The Rays one is more about taking on salary and surrendering a few mid-tier guys
STL
3:03
Seems like there have been less chats on the main site lately, this the new norm?
Anthony Franco
3:03
Nope, that's just because Steve has been off from the entire site for a couple weeks
3:04
Whenever he comes back (might be next week), he'll start doing the email posts for Front Office subscribers and his weekly main chat again
3:05
There have been fewer player chats of late. That's not intentional, still trying to arrange as many of those as we can, but it's really variable depending on guys' willingness to do one of those

3:05
I Kershaw is Plan A after the lockout and Suzuki is Plan A1. If these do not work out what do you plan 2A&2B should be for Rangers.
Anthony Franco
3:06
I wouldn't really think of it like that. Just feels like those guys are more special talents who might be particularly suitable for the Rangers (Kershaw because of geography, Suzuki because of age)
3:07
I think the rotation just ends up as is if Kershaw doesn't sign there. Maybe they take a shot on Vince Velasquez or something but I wouldn't expect a huge addition at that point
3:08
Could see them pivoting in the outfield a little bit more, since there are still a bunch of fairly young free agents (Castellanos, Conforto, Schwarber)
Giants fan
3:08
Should my team be looking to upgrade 3b?
Anthony Franco
3:08
I'd want to at least add some external help in the infield, yeah
3:09
Doesn't necessarily have to be at third, since you could acquire a second baseman and kick La Stella over to the hot corner if Longoria regresses or gets hurt
But I'd get another body in there
Will
3:09
Do Greene and Torkleson make the major league roster for the Tigers on opening day?
Anthony Franco
3:09
Doubt it, they're both the kind of prospect teams are motivated to keep down for two weeks for service time reasons
3:10
If the CBA contains some form of adequate mechanism for combating that, then I think so
Rangers13
3:11
Any prospects other than Jung or Winn you see debuting for Rangers in 22?
Anthony Franco
3:12
Josh Smith probably gets there midseason too, but I don't think we'll see Foscue, Duran or Leiter yet
ATLFAN
3:12
Who will be in the outfield for the Braves on opening day (assuming opening day is in April)?
Anthony Franco
3:12
Still feel like they're bringing back one of Rosario or Soler. I'll say Rosario, Pache and Duvall for the first month
Brian A
3:13
Grichuk for Kimbrel.Fills a need for both sides.Who says no(could include prospects but both sides carry the salary)
Anthony Franco
3:13
I doubt Chicago goes for this, unless you're including a decent prospect or two. If the White Sox wanted Kimbrel gone that badly, they could've just bought him out
Josh
3:14
Any chance you guys may do some more “Transaction Retrospections”? Those are always fun to read.
Anthony Franco
3:15
Noted. I'll try to mix a few in with all the original stuff we're running to fill the time during the lockout
jonathan
3:16
What should the salary floor be  and why cant the league do more to enforce it
Anthony Franco
3:16
I'm not big on the salary floor, since I think we'll just get terrible teams taking on underwater contracts in trade (i.e. Hosmer or Heyward) to buy prospects as opposed to a more active free agent market for mid-tier veterans
Dodgers fan
3:17
What pitchers will we target in FA or trades
Anthony Franco
3:18
The A's guys (Manaea, Montas, Bassitt), maybe John Means and the Reds top trio (Gray, Mahle, Castillo) are the most obvious rotation targets
3:19
I think they'll dip back into free agency for bullpen help. Collin McHugh feels kind of Dodgers-y
Alright everyone, I'm going to head out to get some stuff up on the site
Will

Thanks Anthony
