I don't know. Seems like an obvious trade piece to me, but I also don't have access to all the offers the A's are getting
2:42
Maybe they're truly not getting anything they find valuable in return, but that'd be pretty strange given the dearth of starting pitching otherwise

With Dave Roberts pronouncement of the Dodgers winning the World Series, how good are Los Angeles chances?
Anthony Franco
2:42
Better than anyone else's but still not very good
The playoffs are just too random to actually say with conviction that any team is going to win the World Series
2:43
Roberts should have bravado and everything, and they're the best team in baseball in my view
But FanGraphs' projections still have them at about 15% to win it all despite being at 96% to make the playoffs. Anything can happen in a seven-game series
AA
2:43
But is Conforto a game changer?
Anthony Franco
2:44
Guess it depends how you define that. I think he's an above-average everyday right fielder, but not a star

With Flaherty's shoulder, and Reyes inability to stay healthy or throw strikes, did St Louis really do enough? VerHagen looked really sharp the other day though. I'm not saying they needed a Sherzer. But a Tepera or McHugh along with a Happ would have been a welcome sight. I'm probably higher on Matz than most as well. I liked that one. Dickerson as well. And I'm ok with DeJong. His defense is really good, and if he can hit .250 with power I'll be happy. Should they just let Liberatore have at it? I realize innings limits and all, but start him in the rotation, then when Flahertys glass shoulder is healed, he can go to the BP. Pretend your name is DeWitt, are you done? Or do you call Oakland and offer Bader for Montas? Sorry, they're not getting any of our top 5 if I'm in charge. I'd think Bader would be plenty(someone might offer more, so be it). I could be wrong though. Enlighten me :)
Anthony Franco
2:45
I don't think Oakland wants Bader for a similar reason as I discussed with Urshela earlier. Good player, but the control window doesn't line up with what they're trying to do
2:46
As for the Cardinals overall strategy, I'm lukewarm on the offseason. Keeping DeJong at short? Ok, but uninspired. I like Matz but probably not at the price they paid for him. Dickerson's a nice add, think they should've at least made a stronger effort to retain Luis Garcia in the bullpen
2:47
They'll hang around, and you can sell me on them still being a threat to the Brewers. But I think other teams they'll be vying for playoff spots with did more this offseason to improve

Is Trevor rosenthal healthy/still a FA?
Anthony Franco
2:48
Still a free agent, yeah. Healthy, I don't know
Feels like if he were we'd have probably heard about a showcase or something, but we've not heard anything saying he's not either

2:49
Could the Twins get Montas without giving up Martin or Lewis?
Anthony Franco
2:50
I'm sure there are paths to that. Miranda, Larnach and Matt Canterino or whatever probably gets the A's attention. Don't know that Minnesota would want to go that far

2:50
What type of prospect package could the Dbacks get for Merrill Kelly?
Anthony Franco
2:51
Seems like not much, considering how little talk there was about how at last deadline. He's just too boring to really move the needle for teams, I guess. Doesn't miss bats and rack up grounders at an elite rate
He's a perfectly capable #4/5 starter but if teams aren't offering more than a lottery ticket or two, Arizona seems content to just hold him

2:51
Where does Juan Soto inevitably get traded to?
Anthony Franco
2:52
I don't think it's an inevitability Soto gets traded. He's almost certainly not going anywhere this year

Royals trade for Manaea, BWJ rakes, Pratto rakes. Whit is Whit, Nicky stays the course, Benni hits like he can, the rest of the guys just play to a respectable level, Greinke helps the young guys take a step forward, and the BP has the ability to be nasty if all goes well, repeat a 2015, wouldn't that be cool. What would you add to them? You can do anything you want, as long as it's realistic. (I'd argue this has the ability to be a better team than '15)
Anthony Franco
2:53
That would all be awesome, but any time you list five-plus things you're hoping go right, you're probably setting yourself up for disappointment
2:54
I'd like another bat so you're not relying on Santana or Dozier at DH. The rotation has pieces but not all of Hernández, Kowar, Lynch are going to pan out
2:55
But yeah, if they traded for Manaea and Austin Meadows, a couple of the arms took steps forward, Witt and Pratto hit the ground running, the team's really good. Just wouldn't expect all that to happen

Here in Marinerville, many fans are still lamenting that Kris Bryant went to Colorado instead of Seattle.  I’m curious if you think the likelihood of putting up better numbers at Coors Field over T-Mobile park at the end of his career for future Hall of Fame consideration might have been been a deciding factor or did it really just come down to money like it usually does.  This assumes, of course, that Seattle was seriously in the mix and I’m not so sure of that.
Anthony Franco
2:55
Boring answer, but I'm guessing it was just money
2:56
Bryant talked about how he loves Denver. I've never been, but I've only ever heard glowing reviews of both the city and the ballpark. So I'm sure that helps
But ultimately, we predicted him for 6/160. Colorado offered 7/182. That's a good offer, one I don't think any other team was prepared to match, and he took it

Suppose the Phillies decide they should upgrade their defense at first base and so they trade Hoskins. Any market for him? Could they get a young CF if one of their recently drafted pitchers is included? Would Schwarber or Castellanos be an option at 1st or would they provide worse defense than Rhys?
Anthony Franco
2:58
I don't think Rhys and Andrew Painter is getting a high-end controllable center fielder, no. He's a tough player to value coming off the abdominal surgery, and he's in that sort of demographic (bat-only first baseman with an escalating arbitration price) teams don't love
Not to say nobody would want him or anything, but I don't think he has massive trade value
2:59
Schwarber played a little bit of first down the stretch with the Red Sox but didn't look super comfortable. I'm guessing he or Castellanos could handle it but probably wouldn't be any better than Hoskins is

Thoughts on Yankees catching situation?
Anthony Franco
2:59
Mentioned this earlier, but I think it's pretty bad
Go get Contreras

All the uproar about a lack of extension talk with Mancini…I don’t get it. He’s not going to be a core piece when we’re competitive again (‘24-‘25). We have plenty of OF/DH bodies already. Sure, he can spell Mountcastle at 1B, but so can Gutierrez. Trade Trey now…agree?
Anthony Franco

I wouldn't trade him now, so I don't know that you'd get more than like a lottery ticket for him
