Besides seeing if Wander Franco follows through on your AL MVP prediction, what other storylines are you most interested in this season?  Cabrera clearly is getting 3k hits, and Pujols has basically no chance at 700 HR.  Any other milestones or intriguing developments to keep an eye on?
Anthony Franco
12:07
Braves-Dodgers has a budding rivalry feel to it. Are the Giants still incredible? There's a bunch of top prospects playing key roles on hopeful contenders right away, that rocks. Can the Astros pick up right where they left off without Correa? There's a ton of stuff I'm excited about, although it's mostly at the team level
12:08
I'm not a huge milestone watch person. It's very cool when somebody gets to 500 homers, 3000 hits, etc. but I don't track them or even become aware they're on the verge before they're right on the doorstep and everyone starts mentioning it every time they hit

With Ruben Niebla gone to the Padres  do you see the Guardians still being able to develop pitching ?
Anthony Franco
12:10
Yeah, I think it's a loss but it also seems like they have very coherent pitching development plans for the minor leagues on up. The whole PD staff there is really good

Will Seager, Semien, Lowe, Garcia or Garver have the best slash line this season? What will that line look like?
Anthony Franco
12:11
I still think Seager's the best hitter of that group. He and Semien are in a different tier than the other guys
.285/.365/.520?

It wasn't that long ago that Cleveland maintained some pretty healthy payrolls.  What changed?  When will they start spending again?
Anthony Franco
12:12
They went up for a few seasons on the heels of the pennant run and then crashed back to earth post-pandemic
12:13
Maybe that's a sign they'll shoot back up after this year when they've got full attendance for a season, but I'll believe it when I see it

Why don’t AL East teams try to acquire and fix Patrick Corbin, assuming the Nats are willing to eat most of what is still owed to him? He was such a hot property just two years ago, surely he is a nice buy low candidate especially for Boston and NY.
Anthony Franco
12:14
He's still owed so much money. His velocity has waxed and waned a bit. He got swinging strikes on 11-16% of his pitches between 2017-21; last year it plummeted to 7.9%
12:15
I just don't see much appeal there. I was never a huge Corbin guy even when he was in high demand, but he did play a pivotal role in the Nats World Series, so it's hard to call it a complete failure

Who wins the NBA 2022 Finals?
Anthony Franco
12:16
I don't follow the NBA at all. I know the answer to this question is "not the Lakers"
The Suns? They're good right?
Bill
12:16
Other than Montas, Laureano and Murphy, does Oakland have anyone left to deal between now and the trade deadline?
Anthony Franco
12:17
Lou Trivino should end up somewhere. He's a decent reliever, particularly if you platoon him more heavily. Tony Kemp and Chad Pinder are viable utility pieces but not going to bring back much
12:18
I don't actually think they need to trade any of those guys. Montas maybe, but I'd have to be bowled over to move Laureano or Murphy if I were them. I don't think the 2023-24 A's will be bad actually

12:18
If he can show some improvements this year offensively would Eli White, Cauley, Acuna be enough for Hernandez from the Marlins?
Anthony Franco
12:20
I don't think White moves the needle at all. Cauley and Luisangel Acuna for Elieser? Miami could probably do better but it's not too far off. Hernández has some interesting K/BB numbers but real flaws too
Huge home run rate, a ton of recent injuries. I guess it depends on how motivated they'd be to move him. Doubt they'd do it unless they're out of contention by the deadline
Hits Like Rays
12:21
Chances of the Rays getting Michael Conforto?  They definitely need another hitter after trading Austin Meadows...
Anthony Franco
12:22
I did wonder about this after the Meadows deal. I don't think so; Lowe, Margot, Kiermaier, Arozarena is a good outfield already. But we know they had some cash to play with on Freeman, could plug Conforto in at DH to take some AB's from Choi and Yandy
12:23
It's workable and I wouldn't be stunned, but I think they're more in dark horse territory still
Jeremy
12:23
Who is a realistic trade deadline/in season upgrade for the Jays at 2b?
Anthony Franco
12:24
Nats will probably trade César Hernández, Seattle could move Adam Frazier if they're scuffling or Abraham Toro just takes the second base job. Cubs could trade Villar
12:25
I know Jays fans hate Villar because he was awful there for a month, but he's been pretty good otherwise and they looked into a reunion
12:26
Maybe the Reds trade Kyle Farmer to make room for Barrero, and the Jays (or some other team) kick him over to second?
Bill
12:26
Cora said yesterday that JBJ and Arroyo will be “in a strict platoon”.  There is no better RH hitting OF available who is better both in RF and at bat than Arroyo? There must be, no?
Anthony Franco
12:27
They seem to like Arroyo more than most, and the options aren't great once they missed on Pollock and the Mets didn't move J.D. Davis
Austin Hays is too good for a platoon role. If you're trading for him, it's too play him everyday and give up real talent
12:28
Piscotty? The D-Backs might trade Jordan Luplow if they struggle, same with Pham/Cincinnati
Bill
12:29
With the first pick in the 2022 amateur draft, does Baltimore just pick Druw Jones or do they imprudently pass on him and play games again with their draft dollar pool ?  The expression that comes to mind is “too smart by a half”.
Anthony Franco
12:30
I wouldn't say it's clear Jones is a better prospect than someone like Termarr Johnson or Elijah Greene
12:32
I think we probably just disagree here philosophically too. I think the underslot cut teams like the Orioles and Pirates have done makes a good amount of sense. Bucket the guys by tier, but if you're got three Tier 1 prospects and not huge separation between them, I think it's perfectly fine to just take whoever accepts the least amount of money and go overslot in later rounds
It diversifies your risk a little bit and guards against projecting with too much certainty than you can definitively rank these guys 1,2,3,4 etc.
