sorry, got cut out there. Meant to ask what. you think of Clase's contract
Anthony Franco

It's not crazy money but I'm also not sure what the point really is. I'm basically not a fan of any of the early-career reliever extensions because of bullpen arms' volatility
12:35
They already controlled Class through 2026. I don't know that buying out a couple more free agent years is really worth it. There are only a few relievers who are reliably great each season
I didn't love the José Leclerc deal with Texas for the same reason. Would've just traded him personally
Jose berrios
12:36
now that there's been some time to think about it, what do you make of the Berrios extension? It seems pretty team friendly to me
Anthony Franco
12:37
Yeah, it's a really nice move for the Jays. They basically bought out six free agent seasons for a bit more than Gausman/Ray money
I think Berríos is better than Gausman but it's fair to have them in any order. Berríos is four years younger, though, so he's the best long-term bet

alright hear me out on this. The rays are operating at their highest payroll of all time. They had the option to trade expensive veterans with dwindling team control and unlike the typical rays they decided not to trade them. they signed Wander Franco to a high extension and gave 9MM to Corey blubber. Oh, and they went after FREDDIE FREEMAN. is this a sign of payroll things to change in Tampa and if so, shouldn't the entire league be terrified?
Anthony Franco

I don't think they're about to blow past nine figures annually, but yeah, the Freeman pursuit was eyebrow-raising
If that kind of money's there -- even just for a special player -- they're obviously even more dangerous than they've already been
12:39
And the entire league is already on notice obviously since they're annually so good and showing no signs of slowing down

It's past opening day and conforto still hasn't signed. Do you buy him and Boras' excuse that there was a medical issue and that they choose not to negotiate, or do you think that there's now a chance that he doesn't sign until mid summer

Answered this in greater detail at the start of the chat. But the short answer is no, I don't buy it
