It's totally defensible to be excited, and I don't think they're ever going to 20 straight years without winning again
2:57
All that said, the ownership isn't great and the payrolls probably aren't ever going to be robust. So they're going to have a tight margin for error. Is Cherington capable of pulling off a Guardians-type run of consistently being competitive? I think so, but it's not easy

Whats your take on Jordan Groshans? Future major league starter or another utility infielder? Where do you see him fitting in now that Chapman is in Toronto?
Anthony Franco
2:58
I think he's a regular. Could work him in between second or third base and this year
2:59
This year*
And if he performs well, maybe move Biggio next winter

does it make any sense for the a’s to snag conforto post-draft? i know their whole goal is to reduce payroll but they could sign and flip him maybe?
Anthony Franco
2:59
It makes sense from a baseball perspective but I can't see ownership allowing that

how good is Sheldon Neuse? is he legit? i was always a big fan of his bat
Anthony Franco
3:01
I've always kind of liked Neuse and think he could still be a decent bat-first utility guy but keep your expectations in check. The Dodgers put him on waivers a month ago, it's too early to say he's a part of the future core or anything like that

why can’t Byron button stay healthy? :(
Anthony Franco
3:03
I don't know but it stinks
Surprise!
3:03
What’s going to be the most surprising thing to happen during this season?
Anthony Franco
3:04
Haha if I knew this, I could make a lot of money on a sports book
3:05
I picked Wander Franco to win AL MVP. Would that qualify?
Eh, he's got the same odds as Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette, so probably not
3:06
I don't have a good answer for this off the top of my head. Twins make the playoffs?

How out to lunch was Phil Castellini with his comments? Cincinnati doesn't just compete against baseball teams. They compete against football, basketball, video games, etc. What a tool.
Anthony Franco
3:07
Yeah they were not great, although there's some amount of truth in truth in what he said that offers a real indicator into how a lot of the league higher-ups think
There are going to be a lot of people who will watch Reds games no matter what happens (although I do think the number of fans he cost the team with those comments isn't zero)
3:09
And because they have something they know a lot of people won't live without, they don't always feel pressure to put as good a product out there as they could

Frankie Montas for Gleyber Torres straight up?
Anthony Franco
3:10
I don't think the A's would do this. Gleyber only has one more year of control than Montas. They'll look for longer-term options
Tap-Tap-Tapia

It's hilarious that jays fans have been calling for Grichuk to be traded for the last 3 years. And 7 games into it, they're complaining about it. 1) It's 7 games. 2) Tapia is more appropriate as a 4th OF 3) He's cheaper 4) Palacios wasn't DFA  because of Tapia, it was because of Jansens injury.
Anthony Franco
3:12
Palacios wasn't DFA directly because of the Tapia trade, sure. My point is that Palacios could've offered the same thing Tapia does, in my opinion, so there wasn't a huge point in the trade
Alright, that's all we've got in the queue for today
3:13
As always, you can throw stuff at me on Twitter throughout the week
