Jordan Luplow's off to an awesome start and is typically good in that role. D-Backs would probably move David Peralta too. Tommy Pham kind of works there rotating through the corner outfield and DH
4:43
Galaxy brain idea might be to trade for Benintendi and have him play center. Sub him out late in games with Cain for defensive purposes but live with some miscues out there because your rotation strikes everyone out anyways?
It'd be an offensive upgrade at least

How much longer until the Tigers fire A.J. Hinch?  Yes, there may have been too much hype/hope among Tigers fans, but Hinch was a disaster in Arizona, only won because of cheating in Houston, and the Tigers have well underperformed under his leadership. Will he or Joe Girardi be the first manager fired, given the uproar in Philly?
Anthony Franco
4:44
I don't think we're anywhere near that point with Hinch. Feel how you will about the Astros, but saying they "only won because of cheating" is pretty simplistic. Those teams were really talented, and they did a great job developing pitching throughout his run there
4:46
Tigers have been terrible this year, and I'm sure they're frustrated. But this roster never seemed like a slam-dunk contender to me. 9-23 bad? No, but always kind of a playoff longshot, even before Mize and Manning got hurt

In light of Alek Thomas' call-up and recent performance, how do you see the playing time for Thomas, Varsho, Kelly, and the remaining outfielders shaking out?  What might happen when Corbin Carroll is called up this year or next?
Anthony Franco
4:47
Kelly, Thomas and Varsho are going to be regulars (Varsho primarily in the outfield). Whichever of Pavin Smith or David Peralta is playing worse once Kelly's healthy probably gets squeezed out of the starting lineup
Peralta's going to hit free agency after the year, Smith might just be a role player anyhow. There'll be room for Varsho, Thomas and Carroll when the team feels Carroll'

When the team feels Carroll's ready*

W he at will it take for me to stay with the dodgers
Anthony Franco
4:50
I'd ballpark Turner's contract at like 9/288 right now. Maybe nobody pays him through age-38 and he ends up at eight years at an AAV that tops Seager's $32.5MM instead but I think going to nine gets the highest guarantee

Do you still feel that this Giants’ team is legit?  They surprise me a little when they’re playing really well (a little, not a lot) but then, they get drummeled by the Dodgers which seemingly was expected.  Your thoughts (thank you)???
Anthony Franco
4:51
Depends on how you define legit. They're not as good as the Dodgers, and I don't expect them to win the NL West. But they're one of the five best teams in the National League and a slash-dunk Wild Card team in my view

Do players on the 40 man, get the league minimum automatically or do they have to play in at least x number of games?
Anthony Franco
4:53
Players on the 40-man but in Triple-A make less than the MLB minimum but more than most non-roster players at Triple-A. I'm not positive what the actual number is though

Oakland Montas for Chicago Burger,  Who says no?
Anthony Franco
4:54
Oakland. Burger's not the kind of player who can headline a deal for an impact guy

What would Bogaerts cost us
Anthony Franco
4:55
Really tricky player to value, if he even comes available. The three remaining years beyond the opt-out adds some downside because he could get hurt, but he's almost a rental
4:56
Last summer, the Cubs got Pete Crow-Armstrong for a Javy Báez rental, Alexander Canario for Kris Bryant. Bogaerts is better than both of them, but the Angels don't have many of those "back half of the top 100" type guys
4:57
I don't think the Angels would give up on Adell for two months of Boagerts, but I guess you can't rule it out in the way I wouldn't have expected the A's to trade Jesús Luzardo for Starling Marte. But something around Sam Bachman and a couple mid-tier guys the Sox are high on seems more likely to me
4:58
Obviously, a ton depends on how Boston plays in the next two months. They're not going to deal Bogaerts unless they're cooked by the deadline

What kind of deals are out there for the Mets to make? Any chance they bring up Alvarez or Baty at some point this year?
Anthony Franco
4:59
I doubt we'll see either of the prospects barring injury. Baty strikes me as further along, but the Mets' position player depth might not give him a chance to play right now. Throwing Alvarez into the middle of a pennant race is a ton to ask of a 20-year-old catcher
5:00
As far as external pickups, it seems like they're going to need some bullpen help (as most contenders will). They're another team that makes sense for Contreras, Vásquez, any other catchers who might be available. I don't think Billy Eppler's going to be too committed to James McCann

do you think Bauer will ever pitch again in the MLB?  What are the chances he wins his appeal?  Thanks!
Anthony Franco
5:01
I hate to keep ducking this question but I really have no idea. Without knowing specifically everything the league was basing its suspension off of, I'd just be throwing a dart trying to predict the outcome of the appeal
Nelson Cruz
5:01
I’ve been really struggling so far this season. Is this the end of the road for me?
Anthony Franco
5:03
I've bet against Cruz before and been wrong but yeah, I think it might be. He was also not good down the stretch for the Rays last year. He's not hitting the ball as hard, way too many grounders

Will the Braves ever shake off their offensive lethargy? Difficult to have confidence in Ozuna. Loss of Freeman is taking its toll.
Anthony Franco
5:04
Addressed Ozuna earlier in the chat, not super optimistic there. Guys like Albies and Duvall should be better, and obviously Acuna's going to be huge
5:05
I think they'll still be fine, but they didn't give themselves a ton of margin for error in the outfield and Swanson's strikeout spike is a little worrisome. They're kind of in yellow flag territory for me but it's too early to say they're in real danger of missing the playoffs or anything

Our hitting is inconsistent.  Should I be worried
Anthony Franco
5:06
Nah, I'd view it the other way. They're underperforming and still 20-9
They'll be fine

Do you think any of these prospects make it up this season: Cole REagans, Cole Winn, Josh Smith, Davis Wendtzel, Lee, or Foscue or Bubba THompson?
Anthony Franco
5:08
I expect to see Smith this year and Winn if earns it by performing better. Foscue feels like an early 2023 guy but a late-season promotion this year wouldn't be too surprising
5:09
The shine is kind of off the Ragans, Wendzel, Thompson group. Maybe they can force their way back into the picture but it'd take a better minor league showing than they've basically had at any point in recent years to get there
