Eh, I doubt they do that yet. He was pretty good last year, and it's not like anyone else is hitting right now either
3:47
Might cut into Grossman's playing time, but as long as they like his attitude and everything -- which it seems they do -- might as well keep him on the roster

Could Chad Green get a 2 year extension with the Yankees? What is the likelihood of it happening and how much would it cost?
Anthony Franco
3:48
Yeah I could see this. Something like 2/12 with an incentive-laden club option for 2025 maybe?
Daro Lew

Do you think that Sean Murphy will still be with Oakland in 2023? With Langeliers, Bride and Soderstrom playing well in the minors, it seems like the A's should be fine at catcher for the future, and could definitely use prospects to upgrade other positions. I'm sure the front office still has not made any decisions, but the future of Murphy seems uncertain.
Anthony Franco
3:48
I do actually, think Murphy's a core piece whom they'll keep around until he's like a year from free agency
3:49
But I believe Steve feels differently and expects they'll trade him and turn things over to Langeliers by this offseason

Who are some realistic shortstop options that could be available at the deadline for us? Would Ahmed Rosario be an upgrade?
Slick Rick Hahn
3:49
White Sox second basemen: Garcia is hitting .191, Harrison .182 - so what options do I have on the trade market at second base?  And we gave up 16 runs to Boston not once, but twice.  How do we need to adjust our pitching?
Anthony Franco
3:50
Might as well take these together to handle the middle infield trade questions
3:51
Brandon Drury, César Hernández, Andrelton, Jonathan Villar, Nick Solak if another team still thinks he can play second base all seem like viable trade candidates
White Sox aren't going to trade for Cesar, Angels won't get Andrelton again, but in general
Adam Frazier too if the Mariners don't climb back into it
3:52
On Rosario, I don't really see him as an upgrade. I held out hope there for a while but the approach is just so bad and he's not a great defensive shortstop

What's wrong with Tyler O'Niel this season (besides being injured). He isn't doing as good as he was last season. Can you see him getting to that level once he gets off the Injured list?
Anthony Franco
3:52
He stopped hitting the ball hard, which is weird. He's clearly a very strong human, and I expect him to start hitting for more power whenever he comes back
3:53
But the counterargument would be that 2021 is really the only season where he hit for elite power despite the physical tools, and it could just be an outlier
3:54
I'm still a believer but the track record outside of 2021 really isn't great

Will the Rangers resign Martin Perez or is he traded and if so what can they get
Anthony Franco
3:54
They'll trade him and you'll probably be underwhelmed by the return
3:55
He's had great results so far and he's cheap/durbale, but I don't see the league valuing him a ton more than it did over the winter. He's still not striking anyone out, gets a ton of grounders but he's eventually going to give up some homers and the ERA will go back up
Brings back a couple mid-tier prospects probably

Is there any hope for Nicky Lopez in KC? At the least, he was supposed to be a decent hitter for average, let alone SBs.
Anthony Franco
3:56
Eh, he's not going to hit .200 all year but he's also not a .300 hitter. Last year was kind of a mirage, built around a ton of softly hit ground-balls finding their way through the outfield
Through the infield*
3:57
It's been a complete reversal this year and nothing's getting through, and I think the real Lopez is somewhere in the middle at his .255 career level
3:58
He'll steal a few more bases than he has though. Tough to steal if you're never on base, but that should come up a bit with the batting average

What's your take on the newly called-up Oscar Gonzalez in Cleveland. He had a great first game, but are his strikeouts really behind him? Should he be a prospect?
Anthony Franco
3:59
Probably just an extra guy. Clearly has power but he's a corner outfielder who swings at everything. That's a tough profile to make work unless you've got truly special bat control

Did I fail this offseason?
Anthony Franco

"Fail" might be a bit harsh but I didn't love it. The Renfroe/Bradley trade felt a little cute to me even at the time. I thought the pitching moves were fine, paid Story more than I would've but not egregiously so
4:02
But I thought they should've done more at right field (or just kept Renfroe) and at first base. I was wrong about them signing Freddie Freeman, but my fears on Dalbec have borne out so far

While Akil Baddoo is on the IL now in Toledo, does he appear to be breaking out of his slump?  When might he be back in Detroit?
Anthony Franco
4:03
Tough to make any conclusion. He only played in two games before he got hurt
Catchers
4:03
Are teams scared to trade for catchers mid-season? The yankees and Astros get awful offense out of their catchers. Yet, I feel like they're not going to trade for someone at the deadline because they don't want to mess with their pitching staffs
Anthony Franco
4:04
Believe I answered this a couple weeks ago. I've heard this theory and can buy it being true but have never actually seen any empirical breakdown on it
I think the Yankees, in particular, should upgrade over the guys they have right now though
Nelson Cruz
4:04
What's going on with me? Will I get back on track? What do the underlying numbers suggest
Anthony Franco
4:06
Ground balls are way up this year, not hitting the ball quite as hard as he used to. Obviously that's worrisome for a power player. I think he might have just hit the cliff unfortunately
