Barrero was called up for Cincy. He had a chance to claim the starting SS job at the beginning of the season and was then injured.  He struggled in AAA before the call up.  What will he be like ROS and is he a long term answer for the Reds?
Brad Johnson
12:51
He's decidedly not the answer anymore. The Reds have Elly dlC, Noelvi Marte, Matt McLain, and Edwin Arroyo all churning through the system as shortstops.
12:52
In the short term, he'll be giving some kind of chance to carve out a MLB future.
12:53
Nowadays, he's just a whifftastic future utility man
Mikey
12:53
Similar to Jay's question above but about Andrew Heaney - great keeper value or too much risk?
Brad Johnson
12:53
Certainly not great value, but you might as well throw the dart if you're holding it and there's almost no opportunity cost.

12:53
Does Evans have a chance to take over the closer role in LA?
Brad Johnson
12:54
You mean Evan Phillips, right?
12:55
It could definitely happen. Kimbrel has a pretty godly FIP so I think the Dodgers will nurse their 15.5 game lead and pray he can sort it out before the end of the season.
12:56
I'm kinda shocked they weren't the ones to add Iglesias. Or Jorge Lopez. Or even just Michael Fulmer.

If you're getting to my questions it must be near the end. Thoughts on Marsh and O. Cruz ROS?
Brad Johnson
12:57
Indeed! I have a couple open-ended ones I've been avoiding.
12:59
Marsh hasn't whiffed since joining the Phillies which is... cool... since that's his fatal flaw. That said, we're talking 11 PA. Still, I think he just needs to sort out his approach. His ~13% swinging strike rate isn't so bad that he should have a 35% strikeout rate. I kinda imagine the Angels hitting instruction must be heinous considering only superstars ever show any aptitude out there.
Can't say I love him ROS, but he has some potential to supply a HR/SB combomeal without ruining AVG
1:00
And that's Cruz in a nutshell too, except I'm less convinced it's an approach problem. I think he just needs time to settle in and adjust. His power is an easy 80.
1:02
Batted ball profile will maybe prevent corresponding HR totals. Or maybe it won't. He has all kinds of Aaron Judge traits. Especially if he can resurrect the discipline he showed at times while developing.

Deep sleeper call-ups in September that might make an impact?  Ignoring the obvious candidates like Alvarez and Henderson.
Brad Johnson
1:03
Tell ya what, I'll take a peek at that for either this week or next weeks fantasy article. Can't say I have a robust list in mind right this minute.

Who are some playoff bats to look for in a deep league (14 teams with 25 man rosters and 6 taxi/minor league spots?
Brad Johnson
1:05
Your waiver wire is likely to have some much better names. I like Joe McCarthy, Josh Palacios, Tyler Freeman, Terrin Vavra, Jake Fraley to name a few.
1:07
McCarthy and Palacios are light-touch 5-cat guys. Freeman is an infielding Steven Kwan. Vavra should hit for a decent AVG and little else. Fraley is a discipline-first guy who can't seem to adjust to the Majors.
Ricky Dee

If Eric Lauer is available as waiver wire pickup is he a must add? Thanks!
Brad Johnson
1:07
Depends on league depth, but probably not. Since around mid-May, he has something like a 4.50 ERA. Luck neutral too.
Dano
1:07
Terrin Vavra, will he ever be anything other than a UT guy?
Brad Johnson
1:08
I don't think so, and especially if he isn't traded. He's a nice depth piece for the O's. Extends the roster. Also doesn't have any traits that scream MUST START
Dany
1:08
AL roto 5x5 league. I need to activate Dany Ramirez, but would need to dro one of Whitlock, Munoz, Jh. Duran, K.Crawford, Rasmussen, or Singer.  Or should I just give up on Dany and drop him?
Brad Johnson
1:08
I assume this is Jimenez?
I could see kutting Crawford
1:09
Depends if you need a maybe-OK, possible-closer over generic SP innings.
Mike

NL only league. Any sleeper SP candidates (rookies/callups) for rest of season. Thinking Adrian Sampson type guys. Thanks!
Brad Johnson
1:09
Ok last question!
1:10
I'll need a minute
1:11
Small chance for Cade Cavalli. Unlikely imo.
1:12
I think the Cards will need Andre Pallante to start again at some point.
Caleb Killian should get another shot
1:13
Roansy Contreras or Johan Oviedo will be needed soon by the Pirates
1:14
Contreras seems like the obvious choice, but they're being VERY deliberate about his usage.
1:15
The Reds really ought to activate Ben Lively
Not because he's particularly good or anything - in fact he's a terrible fit for GABP. But he's a journeyman who's outperformed most of their actual prospects in Triple-A.
