Gotta make do with what's out there though, right?
Lawrence Klatzkin

Brad Johnson
1:29
Are the numbers costs? I'll assume so.
1:31
I'd trim the remaining two spots to Sewald, Duran, Raleigh, and Singer
Kinda lean the two pitchers, but you'd have to decide if it's wise to keep so many mid-tier arms.

What players do you think will benefit from the shift bing banned next year?
Brad Johnson
1:33
Honestly, I think the effects of the shift ban are being overstated. In general, left-handed hitters who are shifted near 100% like Anthony Rizzo. If they also limit to 3 OF, then Joey Gallo gets a boost.

Any chance Vidal Brujan get recalled by Rays and can contribute some Sb's to my fantasy team?
Brad Johnson
1:33
Yea, definitely a chance. They want to get him going in the Majors, especially since Walls is drowning at the plate. I wouldn't say it's a large chance though.

Will Diego Castillo contribute saves this year or should I look elsewhere?
Brad Johnson
1:33
I'd look elsewhere.
1:35
He's their fourth-sixth best reliever so even though the Ms are prone to spreading around saves, he might not find himself in the high leverage mix often enough.
Sewald, Munoz, and Swanson are just outright better than him. Matts Festa and Brash probably are too, but that's definitely debatable.

Which free agent do you see the Pirates signing to play 1st base / DH?
Brad Johnson
1:36
That's a little beyond the scope of this fantasy chat. But I have a perfect record of answering every subscriber chat question so I'll give it a go.
1:37
I think they'll bring in a NRI like Colin Moran to compete with their internal MI depth bomb for 1B reps.
1:38
Or else convert an OFer. They're already trying that with Bligh Madris.
Basically, I don't think they'll sign a rostered free agent for first base.

Who is closing for the Cubs?
Brad Johnson
1:39
There isn't a clean answer to this. It's a committee of sorts with Rowan Wick and Brandon Hughes taking most of the opportunities. They're both better suited to middle relief work.

any data on whether Ks looking are up. I watch a lot of games and it seems like a significant increase. And I increasingly hear announcer comments such “must have been looking for something else”. Huh?  Looking for a pitch with two strikes?!?
Brad Johnson
1:40
I don't have those data sets, though I can check a thing or two in a second.
First, I'll comment on "looking for a pitch" with two strikes.
1:41
With the way pitchers have developed in the last decade, it's better to give yourself a chance by focusing on something specific rather than just trying to make any sort of contact.
1:42
Fielders are good. Making low-impact contact is only a little better than a strikeout. Like 12-15% chance for a hit.
1:44
This doesn't get at two-strike counts specifically, but called strike rate is tied for the lowest since the rough beginning of the sabermetric era (~2008). That tells me looking Ks probably aren't up.

I have 2 questions for you if you don't mind.  1.  Akers or Etieene as a keeper in a PPR league?  2.  How big a gap between Kelce and Pitts at TE?  I will have a chance to grab Kelcie with my first pick or is the gap close enough to wait for Pitts with my 2nd pick and go with another position?  Just for reference, I am keeping Taylor, Jefferson, and one of the first 2 RB's.

I waived OCruz to pick up Baty for this year. What are your expectations for next year for Baty?
Brad Johnson
1:46
Something like .270/.370/.420 with 15-25 HR and 1 SB
1:48
He has a low-angle contact profile. Even though he's a "power hitter," he'll need opponents to cooperate in order to hit more than 20 HR. At the same time, he should comfortably hit for a high BABIP.

Who's the real Joey Gallo? The Yankees version or the Dodgers version?
Brad Johnson
1:48
The Rangers version
1:49
Dude is good. Sojourn in NYC notwithstanding.
It's worth noting his K-rate is still out of control in LAD (40%). But 35% is his normal so it's not THAT out of control.

Arenado or Devers for next season?
Brad Johnson
1:50
Devers. Arenado's at that age where seemingly minor injuries can easily compound.

Does Hader right the ship for this year? Outlook for next year?
Brad Johnson
1:51
Yes, I think so. I don't actually see anything wrong with him. He's had blips like this in the past. Each of his meltdowns looks incredibly fluky as you watch it unfold.
He'll be a top 3 CL in my 2023 preseason rankings - barring injury.
