Show Hey O’Tawny

Three teams didn’t respond to the 7 question memo, Marlins among them. Who do you think are the other two and what the hell is wrong with them?
Travis Sawchik
12:49
What are the Marlins doing exactly?
Peanut Wilson
12:49
Cervelli a fir for Washington?
Travis Sawchik
12:50
Those DL trips and contract are an issue, but I'd like the skill-set there
Kent
12:50
Out of curiosity, which of the final 7 do you think would give Ohtani's bat the longest leash? Padres?.. Could be another factor
Travis Sawchik
12:51
I still think the AL gives Ohtani a longer leash with the bat
Babe Lincoln
12:52
Ohtani is still a young kid.  Think any work has been done on his parents as part of the recruitment process?  The only other situation in which a kid under 25 has all his major sports options open is college football/bball recruitment, and parents are often heavily involved.
Travis Sawchik
12:52
It's said in college football that to win the kid you win the mom ... I have no idea if that's the case here, but if his parents are playing a role than the Rangers, I suspect, know him, best
Ohtani Hype
12:52
How unlikely is it that a country like japan where baseball is smaller (albeit still very popular) can produce a talent such as ohtani. You'd figure the U.S. could develop a player such as Ohtani, or is this one of those things where we are just being graced with a generational player.
Travis Sawchik
12:54
Ohtani is more likely to happen in the U.S. than Japan, but he's a once-in-a-100-year flood. So it's just kind of random. Over the next 1,000 years we will have more Ohtanis from the US than Japan. ... Unless sports/position specialization is a limiting factor
YKnotDisco?!
12:54
What happens first? Browns finally win a damn game or Jake Arrieta signs?
Travis Sawchik
12:54
Arrieta signs
Babe Lincoln
12:55
Think the LOS ANGELES Angels pivot their presentation and try to sell Ohtani on the fact that he wouldn't *really* be playing in LA?  And that even the best player in the world can largely fly under the radar playing there?
Anthony
12:57
Which teams would Travis Sawchik, new GM, immediately tear down and rebuild (excluding teams as lready rebuilding)?
Travis Sawchik
12:57
Couldn't hurt!
12:58
I should probably give this some deeper thought, but Toronto and Tampa in the East have some assets to sell off and are kind of caught in-between at the moment.
Mets could be an interesting sell case
Brandon M
12:59
Isn't it kind of ridiculous that we are trying to assign odds here? Until 5pm yesterday, the Yankees were the clear favorite.
Travis Sawchik
12:59
We have a lot more information today than we did 36 hours ago
And, hey, it's fun
E
12:59
I don't think a player like Ohtani would happen in the US, I think there are talented enough players but teams/coaches will make a player choose pitching or hitting before before too long
Travis Sawchik
1:01
That's true. But Ohtani could have an impact on changing that

Did you see the quote by Ohtani when asked " What are the benchmarks by which you will measure your career when it's over?" Ohtani replied " Of course, awards and milestones, but how much applause and love I get when I announce my retirement will be a good measure."  The man doesn't care about winning...
Travis Sawchik

San Diego is now the clear favorite

Travis Sawchik
1:04
I see he did announce that in Sept ...
Lunar verLander
1:05
How many hours do you think the other 23 teams spent on a pitch to Ohtani, only to be thrown out before even getting to meet with him?
Travis Sawchik
1:05
Hundreds of man-hours, but you have to do it
1:06
Well, unless you're MIA/BAL/ATL

How poorly does Jeter have to run the Marlins to have a negative pWAR (popularity WAR) in the mainstream baseball world? What about his pWAR in the New York markets? Like, if Jeter sends Giancarlo Stanton to the BoSox and Dombrowski fleeces Jeter, he's dead to Yankees fans, right?

Is there any way to figure out what proportion of the "third time through the order" effect is more due to fatigue or familiarity?  It might be harder to get around the fatigue issues, but familiarity could be something that a innovative team could figure out a way to lessen or exploit.

The Marlins have basically told Stanton he can pick b/t StL and SF.  Reports are he wants to wait on LAD.  But if its down to SF or LAD for him, why hasn't he told StL they're out?  MIA already has the SF offer, so its not like SF can re-negotiate if StL gets nixed
