He'd be a good get but I don't know if the suspension remaining reduces the return too much. I still prefer Reynolds, if possible.

how many starts do the combo of severino and taillon make this year? I'd be sooo happy with like 45 between them both
Derek
1:01
I'm optimistic they can get a little more than that, especially now that Taillon apparently is ready to go.

any thoughts on Mike Zunino vs. what we have already? -- low BA but he can hit HR's. I'm not sure of his defensive stats/arm ...

Too late now because the Rays re-signed him before the lockout, but he'd have been a good fit if we knew Gary was going at that time.
I'll go a few minutes over since I have some extra time and there are still a lot of questions to sift through

This has got to be the most dispiriting offseason over the last couple of decades, right? Maybe others have been as quiet, but based on the position of the team, the closing window of contention, and the opportunities being ignored, it’s really rough.

I remember being really, really bummed the year Cano left. This definitely hasn't been a very pleasant one though. It's up there.

Is using $39 million of the luxury tax budget on Rizzo and Donaldson as insane as I think it is?
Derek
1:05
Well, they did save some on Gary/Gio (I think like 14-15M off the top of my head). But yeah, I'd have allocated it elsewhere. The obvious thing now is that the Yankees just don't want to give out any more long term deals, aside from Judge I guess.

Who will be the best player traded in season?
Derek
1:07
Hmmmm.
1:08
Maybe Castillo if that doesn't happen sooner. I would bank on the Nationals trading Nelson Cruz though idk if he'll be the best player dealt. It's hard to think of on the spot.
If the Yankees crash and burn (unlikely, but humor me), maybe Judge.

I think keeping both Peraza and Volpe will come back to bite the Yanks.  I'd love to be proven wrong, but there's only room for on SS and 2B is covered for the next few years. Plus, prospects will break your heart as they say.

One could play third, but yeah, the odds of both guys panning out is not as great as we'd like to think. I still think there's a chance Peraza gets moved.

What is your best educated guess on what Yankee, either in minors or MLB, will be a surprise contributor to the Yanks this year? Gil is my guess ....

This'll be the last one, I have to run. I think we'll see Medina in the bullpen at some point and dominate.
Thanks everyone, we'll do this again next week.
