Re: Heaney  - Yankees teach the same seam shifted slider/sweeper/whirly that dodgers do. I just don't think he was capable of making the adjustment mid-season
Derek

Yes, basically this.

Seeing Pineda got me thinking...best "big" pitcher in MLB history? Mickey Lolich? David Wells? Rick Reuchsel?
Derek
1:25
This is CC Sabathia erasure.
He's the first guy that comes to mind for me.
1:26
Here comes Miggy going for 3K.
1:27
Nope
Bart
1:27
Nasty Nestor could have gone 6 innings last time. Will Boone let him go further next time -- I hope so. Do you guys think Nestor is for real?
Derek
1:28
Feel like I get asked if Nestor is for real every week, lol
1:29
I think he is. I don't know if he's this good, but he seems very valuable as a back-end rotation spot or swingman role.

Next Yankee to reach to 3k hits will be.....
Derek
1:30
Uhhh
1:31
That person probably isn't even in the organization/system right now. Might not happen in any of our lifetimes. 3K is really hard to get to!

How many more starts from Cole before it's rational to worry about his results?
Andy Z
1:31
Call it recency bias, gotten used to CC Swole-bathia. Scale of 1 (low) to 5 (high), level of concern with Gerrit Cole?
Derek

1:32
He's 3 starts into 2022. He was great post foreign substance ban last year until him hamstring acted up.
Jeez, the Yankees are swinging like they have plane to catch, huh
If Cole is still bad come July, talk to me then
1:34
You all are quiet today. Question queue is empty right now. Gonna go to the kitchen and grab a snack, back in a few.

1:37
What about trading for Wilson Contreras?
Derek
1:38
I wish they would have addressed catcher in the offseason because I'm not sure they want to bring in a new guy midseason to learn the pitching staff

Which is real?: Yankees fans that care enough to be on these sites hate Boone, the organization appears to love him. Is he as bad or good as one side would want you to believe?
Derek
1:39
He's not a good tactical manager, I think that much is very clear
And Hal and Cashman clearly love him
Joey

Is there any budget left for offensive upgrades at some point. Or will the guys we have just have to step up?
Derek
1:41
Roster Resource has them at 262M for luxury tax purposes, and the next threshold is 270M. I'd guess yes?
HMB
1:44
I know it's early yet, but what kind of upgrades, if any, might we realistically expect to see in-season? Maybe I'm just being pessimistic, but I feel like the best we will get is a 5ish ERA guy who can soak up some innings to try to save an  overworked bullpen, Brett Gardner once someone in the OF inevitably gets injured, and a borderline backup infielder who  would otherwise be cut like Odor was last year.
Derek
1:45
You are indeed being pessimistic.
The Yankees went out and got Rizzo and Gallo last summer in an attempt to boost the offense. They will try to get better.

Favorite memory of this current generation of yankees teams, say 2017 to present?
Derek
1:46
Wouldn't it have to be the 17 playoff run in general?
Wire Fan
1:47
Have the Yankees transitioned to a stars and scrubs approach or is this just how thing played out?  They have an insanely weak bench and are rolling with two, sometimes three major holes in the lineup every day.
Derek
1:47
How things played out as a result of the luxury tax.
1:48
Some news:
Fun!

1:49
Do you find it odd that the Yankees appear to have gone to a pitching/defense team building philosophy as run scoring is trending down? Especially when you consider the attrition rate of pitchers and the confines of Yankee Stadium.
Derek
1:49
I don't think they are prioritizing one over the other.
1:50
They've gotten really good at pitching dev in the minors, so I don't necessarily think they are worried about attrition. They have a lot of good (but underperforming) hitters who also happen to be good defenders.
