I'm all for doing something to make it a little tougher on pitchers at this point.
It's only a matter of time until the entire league catches on to the sweeper trend, btw.

Thoughts on Green being moved? Seems to fit the profile to be moved given age/the arms in the minors
Derek

I've been thinking he'd be moved each of the last two offseasons. I guess it may not hurt too much to deal away from a strength, but I also don't know how much Green will fetch considering he's definitely not as good anymore.

Joe Girardi must really miss having a good pen. Maybe they want Green, not that he'd bring much back.

Might be a match, would also go with Philly targeting relievers a year or two after they were actually good though
that's too harsh on Green, but you know what I mean. Plus Philly may have a surplus of bats that could match with the Yanks

Would you extend Monty or wait until he's closer to free agency?  Feels like he's someone who will age well.
Derek

I really like Montgomery but I wouldn't be in a rush to extend him at this point. FA after '23, will be 30 with a TJ under his belt, and the system seems to be churning out pitchers at a high clip right now. I'd wait and see.

I'm still a little surprised the Yanks non-tendered Clint Frazier. I know $$ had something to do with it, and I know he's still having health issues this year, but would you have kept him, even if only as AAA outfield depth, if it had been up to you?
Derek
1:12
I think it was time to let him go.
1:13
Still think he can be a really good bat, but the health unfortunately remains a concern, and he's really a corner OFer on a team full of them already. It made sense to move on.

In a perfect world, at what point do we move on from Gleyber?
Derek
1:15
Would have happened a year or two ago. Maybe he rebuilds his value enough to be a good trade piece when Volpe is up.

Regarding Sterling calling Cortes Nelson, I wanted to make sure it wasn't just me mishearing, so I pulled up the audio feed of the game. I easily found one spot (4:07:45 or so), where Cortes is pulled from the game, and Sterling very clearly calls him Nelson

Just sharing JJ's comment, nothing else.

Last chance for questions before I split.

Does Higgy give you ANY sense of optimism? I feel like the eye test AND the numbers say he's really bad. Defensively I'm not close to sold that he's particularly good. I feel like he looked like Pudge compared to Gary. I wouldn't flinch at a straight up DFA. Thoughts?
Derek
1:19
No, he can't hit. I think he's better than what he's shown defensively, but he's nothing more than a backup to me.
1:20
I'd be shocked if they DFA'd him though. Trevino has an option if they really want to try Rortvedt (who also has an option too)

Are any of the free agents we all wanted, from the SS's to Marte, performing well? It feels like everyone is bombing pretty hard to start the season.
Derek
1:21
Nobody comes to mind as tearing it up, but I still would rather have some or all of those options.
1:23
Alright everyone, I'm gonna call it here. Thanks for stopping by, talk again next week.
