Is Gardner on the roster on September 1?
Derek
12:43
No
Cooper
12:44
Is Severino on an innings limit this season?
Derek
12:44
Don't think so. This is potentially the last year of his contract (there's a 2023 option). Probably will try to get as much as they can out of him.

Re: Upping the offer - do you think anyone else would give Judge 250/8, assuming he continues to perform? Or would it be a Jeter-esque Yankees bidding against themselves?
Derek
12:45
Maybe the Mets?
Joe B
12:47
If you had to gues: How much of the day-to-day lineups and intra-game changes are scripted by the FO vs up to Boone?
Derek
12:47
I don't like this question because I have absolutely no insight, and Cashman has vehemently denied ordering things down to Boone anyway. I think it's a collective effort ultimately.

If Sevy makes it through this season without any major injury, they have to extend him right?  I don't want to go into 2023 having to depend on an unproven Gil, Medina, Schmidt, or any other young arm.
Derek
12:48
They'll just pick up his 2023 option and go from there.
Brendan
12:49
Andrew Benintendi would be a slam dunk trade deadline pickup no?
Derek
12:49
That's a good one.

George had a good q in the comments: Lets assume Isiah finishes the season with offensive stats consistent with his play to date. What do you think his role will be if one or more of the prospect SSs is ready next year or early the following year?
Derek
12:50
Utility infielder role would work well for him.

Do you think...If Yanks had a talent like Soto...say Dominguez was performing at that level...would they move him to the MLB in his teens or would they slow play it, as they often do??
Derek
12:51
He'd be in the majors. Soto is a Hall of Fame talent, no reason to wait. The Yankees aren't that conservative.
12:52
Like, Soto could go down as one of the best hitters ever, in the most pitching friendly era ever (possibly). No team slow plays that.
Billy
12:55
About Dominguez, I agree he needs a complete overhaul to his swing.  Can that happen during the season?
Derek
12:56
Sure, it's the minors and winning isn't paramount. I also think he never should have been bumped up from the complex league last year.

I know Higgy and Trevino have been dead weight offensively, but is their framing (especially Trevino) a worthwhile tradeoff?
Derek
12:56
I think Higgy's defense has been pretty rough, tbh. Trevino has looked good, but it's also too soon to make much about framing numbers.
12:57
The thing with the catching spot is that it's easy to look past as long as the big hitters are doing their thing.
Funnily enough, Trevino is in the 100th percentile of framing per Statcast, lol
Higgy 38th, FWIW.
Jason
12:57
If they sign Judge, is that it for big contracts signed by Hal? The impossible Soto to NYY dream would be dead right?
Derek
12:58
Probably for a few years, and probably re: Soto.
Dansby SwanSong
12:59
I really like the Locastro pinch running option late in games.  Do you see him sticking all season or eventually being replaced?
Derek
1:00
I think he's up and down, but here to stay come September/postseason.
1:01
That's all the time I have today. Thanks everyone. Talk next week.
