Just from watching today I would have assumed he had a pretty sizeable splits, but surprised that isn't the case for Glasnow

Glasnow was just totally dominant until this inning, and now he looks like bad Glasnow. I can't really understand why Cash, who has a very quick hook for pitchers and must have seen that Glasnow was different this inning, didn't pull him.

My Pet theory is that "Playoff Kershaw" has to do A LOT w/ how his slider looks.

vs. Milwaukee, his best start this season, his horizontal release was 1.44 ft, horizontal movement -0.35, vertical movement 0.74, and got 63% whiff

vs. SD, he had a horizontal release of 1.39, horizontal movement of -0.33, vertical movement 0.79, and got 26% whiff

vs. ATL he had a horizontal release of 1.29, horizontal movement of -0.09, vertical movement of 1.02 ft with only 28% whiffs.

Basically, my theory is that in his worse playoff starts this year, he was releasing the slider closer to his body, leading to a more "vertical" spin, making his slider look closer to a flat cutter than a whiff inducing slider that caused him trouble.

So far tonight, I don't have the statcast data on the spin & movement, but based on his large number of whiffs tonight it looks like it's been "back" since the 2nd inning.
