Nice of Smoltz to admit that, despite pulling Snell too soon, the Rays probably weren’t going to win with 1 run

If the 2020 title has an asterisk the footnote will read “Holy crap you will not believe what the players were dealing with this season. To begin with ...”

yup

Gonna crack open a mango la croix and try to soak in this (possible) last half inning of baseball for a while. Although, I hope there's more

Trying the cucumber/blackberry if you haven't already, v good

In virtually every blog I try to defend the great pitchers from my long experience of following baseball, I first went to Fenway in 1948 and I watched ,and was thrilled by the great pitchers of the past who went 9 shutout innings in Game 7 of the WS, Burdette in 57, Koufax in 65, Lolich in 68 and all on two days rest. I strongly believe Blake Snell deserved to be knocked out of the game, not removed by some ridiculous computer program.

@Paul -  Lefty-Righty matchup, Betts has hit well of Snell in past, Snell's long-term health
Paul Sporer
11:32
Betts has been truly abysmal v. lefties this year and didn't do a thing v. Snell tonight. So this one doesn't hold up, either.

Been drinking that for weeks @Paul, had to switch it up haha

Way too much is being made of the Snell decision. The Rays have scored one run tonight.

11:33
No asterisk; 60 games were a formality for the Dodgers.  162 would have been too.
Paul Sporer
11:33
Agreed. Any WS asterisk would've come from a random team winning, but I won't take a thing away from LA if they hold on
Antonio Lobo
11:33
@David L: agreed.  Credit to the Dodgers bullpen.  Out Rays-ing the Rays!

Seager is going to win WS MVP, but Urias has been huge.

It's pretty fashionable to poop on the Red Sox for trading Mookie, but they traded ONE YEAR of Mookie and shed a disappointing David Price for a pretty good haul (a 55 FV, a 50, and a 40). They offered Mookie an extension and he turned it down. So their other options were to trade him at the deadline (and probably get less in return) or offer him a QO and get one draft pick.
Eel Ffilc
11:34
Damn they played "California Love" and I know Kenley isn't coming in, hurts a bit
Ezekiel
11:34
Yah, Seager deserves MVP definitely.

Who would have thought Gonsolin would have already given up more than half of TB's hits when he left?

11:34
The announcers said last game that players and coaches found this 60 game sprint in the middle of a pandemic even more difficult than a typical season.

Snell's last 10 four seams went from 97, to 97/96 to 95/96 to 95 to 94 across four batters.

I'm here for thoughtful comments. Not a guy who is personal friends with a player attacking commenters who disagree with him - especially when he has the power to not share comments he doesn't like ymmv
Paul Sporer
11:35
What comments have I made that aren't thoughtful? This isn't about liking Blake. I'd have hated the same move w/Kershaw & Roberts. I'm not attacking anyone, get real
Roach
11:35
@David The thing is, there's not much Cash can do to make the Rays score more runs. Closest was having Phillips steal while
AdamZ
11:36
Not to mention both teams had to battle through an extra playoff series
Dave Not Roberts
11:36
@PaulSporer why is TTO meaningless to you? It's not a meaningless penalty.
Paul Sporer
11:36
Blindly citing it with no regard as must adherence. I fully understand TTO as a whole. I didn't find Snell to be diminished. And I haven't even suggested he needed many more batters, but I'd have 100% given him Betts.
sucramrenrut
11:37
Trienen should be facing Brosseau though. He kills lefties.
Roach
11:37
@Derek
  1. Snell's biggest issue has been him nibbling at the plate and getting himself into deep counts. That wasn't the case here, as he was attacking the plate and the Dodgers had no answer.
  2. TTO applies when batters are getting familiar with a pitcher and the pitcher is tiring. The EV when the Dodgers did make contact was weak, and the top of the lineup specifically looked lost against Snell.
  3. Rays bullpen has been fantastic, but they've been significantly more mortal in the WS. Anderson can't strike anyone out, Fairbanks has given up lots of hard contact and Castilla was evidently unable to pitch today.

Urias is very much MVP 2.0 in this Series.
Tony Wolfe

Brosseau can't beat/tie you by himself

I'm sad there won't be a game seven...
hillbillyjoel
11:37
You're smug. And your need to share comments that could just be skipped over just so that you can attack them and have the group agree with you isn't as interesting as you think it is
