I don't know if Mark has any specific plans but it's possible it could be Saturday night. Don't hold me to that though. That's just a guess.
Gleyber
3:51
Am I REALLY fetching someone like Pablo Lopez and if so, what other pieces are involved in a deal of that stature?
Darragh McDonald
3:51
Gleyber on his own won't do it, no. That's just the starting framework.
The rest would depend on which Yankee prospects the Marlins like.

Donaldson, Hicks, $10 trillion, world peace, and a vinyl copy of Led Zeppelin IV for a new infield tarp, and a ball boy to be named later. Who says no?
Darragh McDonald
3:52
Yankees.
3:53
They'll want to hang onto Zeppelin IV.

50 m a year for two years, opt out, 40 m a year for 4, opt out, 30 m for 2…..does this keep judge in NY?
Darragh McDonald

I've had a few questions about creative short-term deals for Judge.
I applaud the creative thinking but I don't think it's likely.
3:54
I know it happened with Correa, but that was likely a fluke of the lockout. And he was only 27.
3:55
Judge is turning 31 in April. I think he'll want to take the biggest dump truck of cash he can get right now.

I hate that this idea is even present within me, but is there a scenario in which the Yankees are better off not signing Judge? I can't imagine any flexibility being available in a roster that houses the monster contracts of Stanton, Cole AND Judge. How do you deal with 3 players making $120 million a year? I'm scared that I even have this thought.
Darragh McDonald
3:55
I don't think it's a totally crazy thought.
The Cardinals were certainly better off by letting Pujols walk away.
3:56
But the Yankees aren't the Cardinals.
They should be able to keep Judge and also spend on other guys.
Sad
3:56
Simply put, what do you think this team needs to do differently?
Darragh McDonald
3:57
Personally, I'm in the "just get into the playoffs" category.
Baseball playoffs are pretty unpredictable.
The Dodgers have been one of the best teams in baseball for over a decade and have one title to show for it.
The Royals were good for about a week and got the same.
3:58
The Yanks have had a winning record in every season since 1992.
3:59
I know that losing is frustrating and it's natural to look for reasons why. But I don't know if there's some special sauce for postseason success.
If there is, I don't know it.

Who plays first base for the Yankees in 2023? I have a feeling Rizzo goes where Judge goes.
Darragh McDonald
4:00
I would guess Rizzo is back.
If not... Josh Bell?
Baby Ruth

8/300 do it for Judge?
Darragh McDonald
4:01
Something in that range, I think.

With so much time being spent on whether or not Aaron judge will ee sign with Yankees, what about the catching position ?
Darragh McDonald
4:02
I could see them making a move there but Trevino was great in 2022, according to DRS and FanGraphs framing.

What odds would you put on a complete rebuild if judge were to leave for the bay. (If he went to queens I can’t see the yanks not reacting)
Darragh McDonald
4:02
I don't see a complete rebuild.
4:03
The rotation is still really good. If Judge walks, you've got that money to spread around to other areas.
4:04
A whole bunch of exciting middle infielders bursting onto the roster will probably give them a surplus at some point.
With the expanded playoffs, I have a hard time not seeing them compete.

Does a Yanks/Nats bad contract swap work?  Yanks clear some positions and get lefty Corbin while Nats get a 3b in Donaldson and an OF in Hicks.  Nats could throw in money to even the trade.
Darragh McDonald
4:06
I don't really hate the framework, to be honest. But it probably depends on the Nats' sale.
They'd be taking on more cash in the short-term and in 2025. But it would certainly help them in 2024.
