When applying for medicine and choosing your 5th choice, can you apply to the same university to do 2 different courses? Eg. Apply for medicine and eg biology with Medicine being your 1st choice and Biology being your 5th at the same uni?
Alexandra

@molly, thanks so much! I wasn’t sure how it worked and if you just used your fifth choice if you didn’t get interview offers from anywhere! Do you know if the universities know if it’s your fifth choice or not? Thanks so much for your help!

Thankyou! Also if I took a gap year would that affect my application if I applied in year thirteen?

Do universities look and take into account extra curricular activities you do or not?
AvatarShauni
4:20
@Daria Yes definitely!

I missed the deadline to apply for events over Easter. Is there anything that can be done or am I too late?

@Shauni Thank you I wasnt sure if it was worth applying or if I had to wait for clearing!

@Alexandra they won't be able to see it directly, but they'll know from your application that the course is your fifth choice, as it won't fit in with your medicine based statement. This isn't a problem though, universities don't discriminate based on this and still treat all applicants the same.

Hi how is everyone doing

When applying for medicine , is there any additional considerations for RFE students?
AvatarJames
4:22
@Hassaan - Hi :0 Im well thanks - you?
AvatarFiona
4:23
@Musaddiq Qasim Yes, its important to mention your extra curricular activities in your personal statement when you apply through UCAS, particularly if they are relevant to the course you are applying to. You will need to link them to your skills and connect them directly to the requirements of the course. You can find out more on the UCAS website and we will be running sessions as part of RfE.

Is it worth being a prefect and doing EPQ as in will universities take it into account when selecting?
@Fiona Thank you

Does the university of Leeds accept you anyways for medicine if you resit your maths and english gcse because you want a higher grade?
4:24
Do you know if the university of Leeds still accepts you into medicine even if you resit your maths and english gcse (havent failed them i just want to get an higher grade) @shauni

@Yusuf - Hi

Hi @Talha the considerations for RfE students are the same for all courses, and they're the ones that apply to Access to Leeds. Engaging with the RfE programme can really boost your personal statement though, as well as your understanding of the soft skills needed for a career in medicine, which will massively help you at the MMI stages.

@molly, thanks so much! another question I’ve been wanting to ask but I don’t know if you can answer is what the best options are with choosing a fifth? I’ve always been interested in genetics and so it seemed this might be something worth looking into but it’s so hard when all I can imagine myself doing is medicine to picture myself doing anything else at university- I just can’t see myself actually enjoying it, it is so counterintuitive to plan for something that is the ‘back up’ so to speak but I know it’s something that must be done- have you got any advice? (Sorry I know it might be a hard one to advise on)

How do we log our attendance :)

Hi again @Musaddiq Qasim Yes, these are all really good things to mention on your personal statement. The admissions tutor will look at your statement as a whole, alongside your qualifications and predicted grades. It's worth starting to think about your personal statement as soon as possible. There is really good advice on the UCAS website about what to put in your personal statement and it's also wise to find out from the course details what they the admissions tutor is looking for in a good application.

@Guest - Molly has just answered your question: yes! It's a red event.

@Gjyslyme hi! It's recommend that you speak to the medical admissions team to speak about your specific requirements: ugmadmissions@leeds.ac.uk If you got a C/4 at GCSE then you would still be eligible for an Access to Leeds offer (you'll transfer to Access to Leeds as you're an RfE student).

What's the best way to find out about the rate for successful applications for any degree
AvatarShauni
4:28
@Hassaan it varies massively from year, course and university, so it's very difficult to say! Some universities like to keep some of that information underwraps, though certain courses will state the success rate in their admissions policy

Hi, will there be more events after Easter, I have done the red and blue events except the yellow ones. Do I have to do a yellow event as well even though I've been to three events across red and blue already?
Guest

Also how can we get our attendance records?
AvatarShauni
4:30
@Guest01 - we'll have events in Spring Bank on 29/30/31 May - we'll definitely have a yellow event there!
AvatarMolly
4:30
@Alexandra you're not wrong - this is a tough one! My best advice would be to talk to as many different people as you can on open days, as well as student hosts on RfE events to find out what they put as their fifth choice and what they think about it. We'll talk about 5th choices and Plan Bs in October Half term, but you will already have applied by this stage so you will need to do some research before this stage! I think the fact that you can't see yourself doing anything other than medicine could also be a good thing for your application though - it will help to show the drive that admissions tutors want to see.
