@Anonymous you will submit your A2L applications shortly after your UCAS applications, so admissions tutors will read both together and decide whether or not to make you an offer based on that.

How do you check the attendance in the live web chats?

Hi @Amy We don't run one here at Leeds for Year 12/13 but there will be medicine related events at our RfE summer school, amongst other things. We will also have medicine taster sessions at half term. Other universities may offer medicine specific summer schools: you'll have to do a search to find out!

Hi, I'm thinking about choosing a maths degree but I was just wondering about how the content is spread out and how pure-based or applied it is. Also, will the course repeat content already studied in a Further Maths A-Level
Francesca

Thanks Shauni......any idea if there will be any business /economics style teachings in summer school?

will there be a mock mmi 's in any event we will do this year

Is an EPQ recognised when applying for medicine?
AvatarMolly
4:53
@Anonymous1 you'll need to hang on for our October Half Term events in Y13 for this!

@Francesca, we'll do our best! We're currently trying to arrange something with PWC...!

I was wondering what a problem based learning is and what it entitles us doing in the course? Also if I were to do a course that was research based how is that different from other courses?
Francesca

PWC?

@Francesca a MASSIVE technology/business company https://www.pwc.co.uk/

Thanks so much guys, you lot are amazing! Can’t wait to see you all ☺️
AvatarShauni

@Louie, in your first year you will be doing pure, applied and statistics equally, so a third of each. In your second and third year you can specialise and pick the areas of maths you would like to study. In your first year some of the content will be similar to A-level Further Maths but most of it will be based on building upon your knowledge of Further Maths

What’s more important, EPQ or Volunteering?
AvatarMolly
4:56
@Guest this depends on the course! PBL tends to be more active learning, and research based more independent, but it really does depend on the course and university that you're applying for. You'll be able to find out much more about this on university websites and open days.

Do we get a certificate at the end of this Programme? What will the evidence be to the university that we have signed up for Reach for Excellence?
Will anyone from this programme help us with writing the personal statement and check it for us when we will be sending it?

would i be rejected straight away if my expected results are BBB when applying to medicine?

Is work experience needed to do a biochemistry, degree
AvatarJames
4:57
@anonymous1 - unfortunately, yes
AvatarShauni
4:57
@Anonymous - I can't tell you whether one is better than the other, it's all about how you demonstrate the skills you gained from each one. If your EPQ is related to your degree course then it could be hugely valuable, but if you know you need voluntary/work experience for your course then that would also be massively valuable

When can we apply for access to leeds?
Francesca
4:57
Thanks, I'll take a look. Looking forward to my two workshops over Easter. See you on the 15th :)

Hi @Corina Each course is different regarding the EQP: you need to look at the entry requirements for the specific medicine course you want to apply to. If it's not clear, then you can email the admissions tutor for clarification. Although UK students are not required to take the Extended Project, the University of Leeds appreciates that it provides the opportunity for you to develop important research and academic skills. You are encouraged to provide further information on your project in your personal statement and, if invited, at interview as it is often taken into account if you narrowly miss the grades outlined in our offer to you.

In some cases admissions tutors may wish to make an alternative offer to applicants, one of which involves successful completion of the Extended Project (eg AAA at A level or AAB plus the Extended Project). Please contact the relevant admissions team for further information.

@Fiona - thanks but what do you mean by medicine related? Like healthcare science?
AvatarJames
4:58
@anonymous1 - we will show you the application system for access to leeds on the summer school - applications will then open in September 2019 - nothing to worry about in Year 12 :)
AvatarShauni
4:58
@Shafrin, there will be a graduation for you in June 2020 when you will graduate from the programme and get a certificate of completion. Yes, we do check your personal statements. We will be running one to one personal statement surgeries in September and October this year. You can bring your personal statement along to your appointment and we will check it and give you feedback
Jennifer
4:58
Is it possible to apply for medicine or maths with the same personal statement
AvatarMolly
4:58
@Victor Work experience is useful in any personal statement and UCAS application, but it all depends on the university and the courses - Open Days and Admissions Tutors are your best bet if you're unsure

does core maths help your application for a law degree?
AvatarJames
4:59
@ALL 1 minute to go
AvatarShauni
4:59
@nimrah, yes it will help as it shows that you have developed your problem solving skills, which is useful for Law
AvatarFiona
4:59
Hi @Amy Yes, there could potentially be all sorts of summer schools out there so make your search as wide as possible!
AvatarJames
4:59
@ALL remember to register your attendance!
AvatarShauni
5:00
@Jennifer - we wouldn't recommend this. Your 5th choice should be related to medicine! You can only submit the one personal statement so it would be clear to the admissions staff in maths that you were applying for medicine. Other science/health courses are aware they may be the 5th choice and would not discriminate against you on this basis

How could I change my minimum expected grades then because my school uses a system to determine them.
Shafrin
5:00
I have been told that only 4 of my choices can be Medicine and one has to be something else related to medicine, I am unsure what to choose, is Biomedical Science appropriate?
