can i apply in year 13 and then take a gap year?
AvatarShauni
4:42
@Anonymous - we don't want to give too much away but it'll be something practical that will hopefully be a great experience for future dentists!

Hi I was wondering whether you offer any courses based on software development or any IT based courses
Halima
4:42
Will they necessarily ask you questions on the books, Shauni
AvatarJames
4:42
@S - you should always apply in year 13, yes - you will then defer your entry in UCAS
AvatarShauni
4:42
@Anon, doing an EPQ can be good as you will develop your independent learning, researching and writing skills. The EPQ can be something you can write about in your personal statement and it also shows that you are dedicated to the course you are applying for.

we cover lots more of this at Get Set For Uni Part Two

I received an email yesterday confirming that I've been accepted for a work experience placement which will mean I won't be able to attend one of the events I booked. What can I do>
AvatarShauni
4:43
@Halima yes - if you get an interview you need to be confident about what you have written in your personal statement - they might ask you about the books you've referenced! You also need to demonstrate that you've learnt something from reading them, rather than just say you've read them

And also, what will be happening at the 5 day residential trip

Hi Molly, I wanted to know how to apply for a funding for my UKCAT from reach for excellence, where can I find the form?
AvatarShauni

Hi , do you think its better to do a pure business management degree or combine it with another subject such as marketing? I suppose in essence which carries the better post grad employment opportunities.
Halima

Thanks to all for answering my questions :)
AvatarShauni
4:44
@Anonymous if you're coming along to get set for uni you'll find out! It's an opportunity to experience what it's like living away from home as a student. We do academic workshops, cultural visits, loads of fun social stuff in the evening - it's the best week :)

How is it best to go about applying to a Law Degree?

When do applications for access to Leeds open? And when will interviews be held for dentistry
AvatarMolly
4:45
@Shafrin the Opportunities Fund form is here: https://studenttalentspotting.leeds.ac.uk/resources/ but you'll need to read the Ts and Cs carefully as we don't offer blanket funding and exam fees aren't usually covered.

Do the degree options have to be 5 different ones
AvatarJames
4:45
@Anon - way to early to be thinking about Access to Leeds - it will open in September 2019. Interviews for dentistry are typically held in February 2020 for entry in September 2020

@Francesca both degrees have excellent graduate prospects. Here at the Leeds University Business School more than 90% of Business graduates end up in employment or further study within the first 6 months of graduating. You should pick an area of business that interests you the most and that you can see yourself studying for the next 3 years.

We have plenty of degrees at the University of Leeds in computer science, plus courses in electronics and computer engineering. Have a close look on the university's coursefinder website as it will give you a clearer picture of what's on offer. Each degree lists the kind of typical modules they run each year so you can find out if's the course you are looking for. Here's the link: https://courses.leeds.ac.uk/

@Caitlin, start reading course content and entry requirements of law degrees at the universities you're interested in. You'll need to look for some work experience, so start approaching firms -we've just booked in a visit to a law firm in Spring Bank! You can also go and sit in open courts for free to observe proceedings. Read up on current affairs and up your commercial awareness!

What are your top tips for mmi interviews? And also just in general for becoming a dental student?
AvatarMolly
4:48
@Chiquitita no, they don't all need to be different courses, quite the opposite actually! Most students choose to apply to similar courses at 5 different universities, but this isn't compulsory. You'll find out more on GSFU part 2!

When does the booking for the maths residential mentioned on the induction day open?
Amy
4:48
Are there no more places for the eggzlam event?
AvatarMolly
4:49
@Amy you'll need to email the inbox about this - it depends on which Eggzam Slam you're wanting to come to!
AvatarShauni
4:49
@Anonymous, we'll be going through this in more detail on the summer school and in our events in October! Don't worry too much at this point, but it will test things like how you react to different situations, your beside manner, your awareness of the medical/dental field

What do Univeristy of Leeds in particular look for in students they want to give an offer to?

@Anonymous, please email the inbox with your name and the residential your interested in. reachforexcellence@leeds.ac.uk

If I don’t have predicted of 3 As will I be turned down for dentistry? Because how will the interviewer know I will apply for access to Leeds and can get in with ABB
Amy
4:50
Is there a summer school for people interested in medicine?
AvatarShauni
4:50
@Anonymous - it totally depends which course you're applying for! Students who meet the entry requirements or Access to Leeds entry requirements, students who demonstrate an understanding and interest in their subject outside of the school curriculum, potentially work experience depending on the subject!
Anonymous
4:50
Are there gonna be any dentistry specific summer residential trips??
AvatarShauni
4:51
@Anonymous we'll have at least one if not two dentistry taster sessions on the summer school!
Amy
4:51
@Molly, are there free spaces on the earliest one?
AvatarShauni
4:52
@Amy -  you need to email the inbox with your full name and the date/name of the session you want to come to1
