Hi @Halima. Look at Haaroon's post above!

does the school of dentistry in leeds offer work experience
AvatarMolly

@laraib it's really up to you - you need to look at course content, how teaching is delivered, what kind of assessment methods are used etc etc. You also need to go to open days and figure out where you think you'll fit in best - while Oxford and Cambridge are very prestigious universities, it's all about the course content and how you feel when you're there, so it's important that you think objectively about what you want from your degree.

How big is the jump from a level to degree level?

How many events must we go to stay on the programme-at least and does this count as one of them
AvatarShauni

@Guest we'd recommend checking out Open Wide - current undergraduate Dental students who run activities and a mentoring scheme for Y12/13 students: https://www.openwidedentists.co.uk/

Hi, what are the entry requirements for Law at Leeds
AvatarShauni
4:44
Hi @Talhah it's AAA, but as an RfE student you would be eligible to transfer to Access to Leeds, reducing your offer to ABB
Russell
4:44
How does doing access to Leeds and doing EPQ impact entry requirements? Will it go down even more? Ie. AAA —-> ABC
AvatarMolly
4:44
@Pearls I'd say it's a decent jump, but it's really not unmanageable. The first year is incredibly useful in helping you find your feet and get used to university study - I don't think the jump from A Level to uni ever felt overwhelming for me.
AvatarMatthew John
4:45
@Mur. You need to attend a red, blue and yellow event in year 12. This is a blue event, so it does count!

I'm mostly worried about what sort of supercurricular activities to do to help me stand out to very competitive universities for a maths degree. Also, I'm finding it really hard to choose between trying to get into Cambridge/Durham/Warwick or going to Leeds because both options seem really good in their own way and I really like Leeds University and I don't know if I'd enjoy the Oxbridge experience as much.

4:45
will you repeat the law taster session in the Easter holidays?
AvatarShauni
4:46
@Russell EPQ depends from course to course - check the entry requirements - but it definitely wouldn't work against you, particularly if it's link to the subject you want to study?! Access to Leeds reduces an offer by 2 grades, so AAA would become ABB

Hi is it vital to obtain long term voluntary to enhance your personal statement
AvatarMatthew John
4:46
Hi @nimarh. The academic taster sessions won't be repeated I'm afraid.
AvatarShauni
4:46
@Hashim hello, it depends what course you want to study - it's not usually vital that your experience is long term, it's all about how you can talk about what you've done and the skills you developed!
Russell

Is it true that Leeds Beckett is better than Leeds Uni
Corina
4:47
What can I do to stand out as a medicine applicant ?
Halima
4:47
Matthew to register my attendance I emailed, RFE with the code and my name and my schools is that correct?
AvatarMatthew John
4:48
@Halima, yes we've received it. Thanks!
nimrah
4:48
also, how do we know the colours of the events?
AvatarShauni
4:48
Hi Corina, I'd recommend looking for work experience, whether that be in a clinical setting or just some way of enhancing your general skills! Be aware of the NHS 6 Cs values and think about how you can demonstrate these in your application https://www.england.nhs.uk/leadingchange/about/the-6cs/

i have applied to openwide but they havent got back to me yet and am starting to worry about not having enough work experience
AvatarHaaroon
4:48
@Russell haha I like this question (I studied at Leeds Beckett) it really does depend on the course rather than the uni. Leeds Beckett are the UK centre for some courses!
AvatarShauni
4:49
@Guest they're currently very busy but if you haven't heard back in a week or so, let us know in the inbox and we'll chase it! Openwide can't give you a work placement, so start having a look and approaching dental practices, hospitals etc - remember to be professional!

@Louie extra/supercurricular activities need to be what *you* enjoy, so it totally depends on you! There's no list of the things you need to do to stand out, because then everybody would be saying the same things and nobody would stand out anyway. Your personal statement needs to convey your personality, your subject interest, and your knowledge. In terms of choosing a university, the best way to do this is to visit open days, look in detail at the course content from each university (will be on the institution webpage for the course) and make the choice that feels right for you, not the one you think you should make. Going to prestigious institutions like Oxford and Cambridge is fantastic if you really want to be there and you enjoy it, but if it's not for you then it's not going to be a good experience, which is what matters more.

Hi @nimrah. The colours are in all the promotional material that we send out. They're also in the handbook we gave out at the induction day. Yellow events are study skills, red are academic taster sessions and blue are personal development.

Does the RfE offer work experience opportunities
Talhah
4:50
alright, any specific a-levels needed to study law? are some a-levels preffered over others and would give you a better chance even with AAA
AvatarMatthew John
4:51
Hi @Mur. No, unfortunately not.

so does that mean openwide will definately not offer me work expereince
AvatarMolly
4:52
@Talhah, this can change quite often, so your best bet is always to look on the university website for course-specific information, and if in doubt, email admissions.
AvatarShauni
4:52
@Guest they might be able to give you some advice, but they don't run placements. OpenWide run events, you should be looking to get work experience in a dental/clinical setting ideally

@laraib you'll need to look at the course and module content for each institution - these are on the institution websites.
