@AC hello! Whilst we hope that doesn't happen, it's good to have a Plan B in mind. If you miss your grades you might be accepted by your insurance choice, so be prepared to go there. If you decide to reject this or miss both your firm and insurance, you can enter clearing

@FR it's a very rewarding job - speaking from experience of course!
AC
4:25
So, if I enter clearing, what course of action do I need to do?
AvatarShauni
4:26
@AC with clearing, make sure you have a copy of your personal statement to hand and be ready to start ringing universities that have vacancies on courses you're interested in. You can view these on UCAS and all the phone numbers you need. You might have to have a short telephone interview so be prepared to talk about you! We'll be on hand at Leeds to help put you straight through to any departments you want to speak to!
@AC don't worry about this too much, we'll send more info out before results day!

I bet the students will have a great time. Last years summer school was great and this years will be even better!!

who is this mystery FR lol. Were you on the summer school?
FR
4:26
say hi to James. I hope the whole team is doing well.
I completed the access to Leeds module last week! I was about to procrastinate over it but I forced myself to do the tasks.
If you don’t get into your chosen course but pick another degree, are you still eligible for the scholarships at Leeds?
AvatarShauni

@guest who's this mystery guest? haha
Guest
4:28
i think there's 2 mystery guests lol
AvatarShauni
4:28
@Guest you guys need to get more creative with your webchat names!!
AvatarMolly

@FR The summer school is definitely the highlight of our year! It's great to work as well :) James says hi too! In terms of Scholarships, as long as you've submitted an application then you'll be considered regardless of whether you change your course. If you're awarded a scholarship then as long as you're still a student at Leeds, you'll still receive that scholarship.

@guest I was on the summer school and I probably have spoken to you at some point (knowing how much I like to meet new people)

I think theres a big @Guest and a little @guest !
It's a James and Shauni double act in the making...

@FR I feel like I know who you are from the initials haha
FR

Thank god. I just recently found this degree at Leeds called “philosophy, psychology and scientific thought” (never heard of it before) and I’m getting (slightly) swayed. I’m doing my research on it but I still want to study my original degree.

@Molly you know it ;)
Guest
4:31
@Molly @guest haha
FR
4:31
@guest who am I? ;)
AvatarMolly
4:32
@FR that's a really big decision to make! Do lots and lots of research but don't forget that you can also do discovery modules from outside of your own degree programme here at Leeds, so that might be a way around it!
guest
4:32
@FR you want me to bait your name out?
AvatarMolly
4:32
@guest no full names thanks!
AvatarShauni
4:33
@FR I'm sure you've been to a taster session in that subject?? We might have called it something different... Monsters and Medical Ethics? Discover History and Philosophy of Science if you remember either of those!
FR
4:33
@guest my name is Francium Radium III
4:34
Thanks @molly :,)
AvatarMolly
4:34
I'm fully behind the battle of the G/guests though!
FR
4:34
I think I went to that lecture. They talked about Darwinism and the interaction between science and the church
AvatarShauni
4:35
@FR that's the one! I think that's at least similar to some of the content offered on the degree you mentioned
M

I have Leeds uni as my firm and since I live in Leeds I'll be commuting from home. However I'm kinda worried that I might not make friends this way? I don't wanna feel left out but I'm kinda thinking that if I don't stay in halls I will be. I know I'll save money by staying at home so it's a tough decision
FR
4:37
@M who needs friends when you can spend that extra £6000 on travelling
AvatarMolly
4:37
@M Lots and lots of people stay at home for uni and are absolutely fine making friends! There are so many different ways to meet people at uni - from lectures and academic societies to sports teams, dance clubs, spoken word and theatre societies and really anything else you can think of!
FR
4:37
I’m probably staying at home the first year, you can join societies and make friends at freshers I guess.
AvatarMolly
4:39
@M I know it can be a little daunting to start something so new and something that's such a huge part of your life, but I promise it's easier than you think!
Most of my uni friends have come from being on the English Society Committee rather than from my halls - I'm living with three of those committee members next year!

@FR if you're a girl right? swear I know who you are I've just kinda forgotten your first name
