is it more frustrating to watch a promising talent struggle, or Dave Bush doing whatever Dave Bush was trying to do repeatedly?
Craig Edwards
4:57
Juan Nicasio was that guy for a while. It will be interesting to see if he has turned theings around
juan pierres mustache

George Harrison
4:58

Craig Edwards
4:58
What is Joe Maddon up to. That's what everybody wants to know.

Who are your top 5 pitchers that didn't get the opening day start
Craig Edwards
4:59
Gerrit Cole is the easy one. Not sure if you would count Sonny Gray.
Jon Lester would be up there.
what?

Carson is like RBIs...truly overrated by the masses, but really, not that important at all...he's dependent on those around him to exist.
Craig Edwards
5:00
this is true for us all.
John

A Mark Trumbo single! Is his power gonna return this year or is he done being a 30+ HR guy?
Craig Edwards
5:00
he will probably hit for power, but that is the only thing he brings.

Ervin Santana's beard or John Jaso's dreadlocks. Who ya got?
Craig Edwards
5:01
Jaso has the benefit of resembling a Pirate, which is pretty amazing.
Terrible Ted

Jose Fernandez

Consensus among a lot of Cubs fans seems to be that if the bullpen struggles they'll trade for an ace reliever. But I think that Theo&Jed think they've found a better way to build a bullpen by picking up Richard/Cahill types. What do you think is more likely if the Cubs' bullpen struggles, that they trade for a Giles type or pick up a couple starters off the scrap heap and convert them?
Craig Edwards
5:02
Mixing and matching did work very well last year. I don't think they are going to let an opportunity get away from them if they really have a chance. They don't have a lights-out guy in the ninth. If that type of player became available, I don't see them not pursuing it
John
5:02
Carrasco and deGrom would both be starting opening day on most teams
Al
5:02
Strasburg?
Craig Edwards
5:03
Turns out there a lot more guys than I would have thought
Big Joe Montferrant
5:03
You guys are still here?
Craig Edwards
5:03
someone will be here all day, folks.

Best rule V guy by the end of this year?
Well-Beered Englishman
5:04
So why is Jose Fernandez not starting?
Craig Edwards
5:04
Certainly not contract/agent/innings issues. I can't imagine Miami ever doing something like that. never ever

Dave Stewart: "Shelby Miller."

5:05
Is Iglesias striking out Howard the opposite of Hellickson getting Vitto?
Craig Edwards
5:05
not quite due to the platoon opposition

I can't tell you how often I try and use batting average as an analogy for something being not particularly important but not necessarily meaningless in the right context. I always think it is brilliant but it inevitably just confuses the matter further. Really need to consider my audience.
Craig Edwards
5:06
sports analogies using statistics can be pretty tough to pull off.
Doug Lampert

Looking at the games, should there be a first two weeks adjustment to the estimated odds to account for starters going shorter into games.
Craig Edwards
5:07
One thing you could see is better bullpen work because with added days off, teams can use their better pitchers more. Some pitchers could pitch the first six games and not pitch more than 2 days in a row.
5:08
not that it is necessarily good strategy for the end of the year but it is possible.
jon
5:08
Fernandez is starting a different game so people have a reason to show up to the non Opening Day game. MIA trying to maximize attendance.
Josh
5:08
The opposite of Hellickson getting Votto is Kershaw getting Howard

5:08
Is it just me or is this an unusual amount of dingers on Opening Day?
Craig Edwards
5:09
I have no idea, but it will be interesting to see if the power uptick overall from last season continues

Ideas on possible comeback player of the year candidates in each league?
CamdenWarehouse
5:09
4 straight Ks from Tillman. At least he looks strong right now.
KDL
5:09
3 NL teams batting the pitcher 8th, with Cubs likely to be 4. Am I missing anyone? Is this the next 'shifting? A sometimes used in the past strategy that becomes popular?
