Oh, thank you. Do you know how many people applied to the MS in SE program last year, Will?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:29
Michael, sure. We received 246 applications last year.

Hi Will, I applied for the online MCIT program by the March 1st deadline and wondered if the decision released dates are the same as the on campus program, April 5, April 19, May 1 or May 15?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:30
Mendy, no they aren't. If you applied by the March 1 deadline, and your application was complete by that deadline (all required materials in by the deadline) then you should get a decision on April 15.

Hi Will, thanks for the chat. I want to know when will graduate students decide their research advisors? Is it necessary to contact and decide before the admittion, or is there some school policy that allows students to decide after admittion? I have applied the PhD program in Materials Science and Engineering Department.

Juanjuan, you'll need to talk to your program. However, new students can't apply to be TA/RA until they've completed at least one semester in their program in good standing. The only caveat to this is if a TA/RA position is part of your PhD position. You can contact Irene Clements, the MSE Program Coordiantor, at ipc@lrsm.upenn.edu.

Hi Will, I understand that with the PhD applications, all students will be handed out a decision. But my concern is when that would be. Also, if some applicants are interviewed within a department while others have no information, is that indicative of the fate of the application?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir

Paramesh, unfortunately, I can't give you a specific date as to when you'll receive your decision. Ultimately it's up to the depts how they choose to make their admission decision.

Hello Will, thanks for taking the time to review our questions. I submitted my application to MCIT on Mar-11. Does that mean my application won’t be reviewed until late April?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:34
Weixi, I can't tell you when you'll receive a decision, as it's up to the depts how they choose to review them and make their decisions. Sorry that I can't give you more concrete information.

Hi Will! I am a Round 2 applicant for the on-campus MCIT program, and I was wondering if you could provide additional information on last year's incoming class profile, such as the share of international/domestic students and average years of work experience. Thank you!
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:34
Perpetual, I'm sorry, but we don't release that information.

Hey Will! Do you know if the MEAM department will make a decision for PhD admissions by April 1st? I have already received offers from other schools and I have to make a decision by April 15th for them.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:39
Connor, I hope so, but I can unfortunately guarantee nothing. I've been in near daily conversation with them about when they'll be sending out their decisions.

Hi Will! Hope you are doing well. I applied for the master of data science program. Penn is my top choice but I have another offer I need to reply by 4/15. Is it possible to expedite the decision if I don't hear back on 4/5? Thanks a lo!
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:40
Xinyi, I'm sorry, but it's not possible to expedite the decisions. Penn Engineering doesn't offer financial aid to master's applicants, so we don't have to abide by the April 15 decision deadline. That's part of why we are as clear as we can be about when decisions will be released on our website. Best of luck to you!
Connor

Ah oh well. Thank you though!

Hi will, I want to ask that what rate of the INTERNATIONAL students graduated from the SE program last year found a job in US?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:41
Michael, that's not information I have, unfortunately. To my knowledge, Career Services is still working on the 2018 graduate information.

Hi Will, I wonder whats the time limit to complete the MSE Robotics program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:43
Tim, like nearly all of our programs, this is a 10-course program, so it's usually done in 1.5-2 years.
Michael
10:43
OK, then do you know the career service data of 2016 or 2017? thanks.
