You will have the full effect of the vaccine two weeks after the second dose

What happens if I don't get my second COVID-19 vaccine on time due to supply issues?
Einstein Healthcare Network
2:05
The current guidance from the CDC is to get your second dose as close to the appropriate interval as possible but up to 6 weeks is okay. Even after the 6 week mark the CDC does not recommend restarting the series if the vaccine is delayed. We are making sure that we have appropriate second doses available for those that receive their first dose

I am scheduled to get the Pfizer vaccine this month for my initial dose, will I get the same vaccine for my follow-up dose in two weeks? Are these vaccines from the different companies interchangeable?
Einstein Healthcare Network
2:06
If you are scheduled to receive the Pfizer vaccine you will receive the Pfizer vaccine as your second dose. The second dose for Pfizer is given three weeks after the first. In extenuating circumstances, the CDC does allow for the vaccines to be interchanged but that is not the routine practice. At Einstein, we are making sure that people receive the same company vaccine for both doses.

Once you get the second vaccine .  Does this mean you can not be  a carrier of the virus and can not spread the virus to others.
Einstein Healthcare Network
2:06
We do not know if the vaccine prevents the carrier state

Will an employee's family members (who live in the same household) be eligible for a vaccine?  If there is possible asymptomatic spread with the vaccine, I am wondering if there will be an effort to vaccinate family members of healthcare workers in the same household any sooner than the general population? Thank you
Einstein Healthcare Network
2:06
Yes we are working on a process to allow household members of our staff to get vaccinated. The household members will still need to meet the other eligibility criteria set by the state or city. More information will be released when that program is finalized.

are there any plans to give vaccines to our family members that  live in the same household?  spouse, parents and adult childeren, because we are exposing them daily from being at work in a patient  service area.

When is full immunity achieved after having the vaccine? How long will the immunity last? Can you still infect another person once you are immune?
Einstein Healthcare Network
2:07
At this time it is unknown how long immunity lasts after the vaccination. Studies are still ongoing to determine when or if booster shots will be needed. Regardless of vaccination status everyone should continue to follow all the COVID-19 risk reduction measures including mask use, social distancing, avoiding gatherings with people outside their home, and hand washing. Also all quarantine and work exclusion rules are still in effect for people that have high risk exposures.
Whether a person can still be asymptomatically infected and transmit the virus is also still being studied. That is another reason why following all the risk reduction measures is very important.

What is the safety guidelines for pregnant employees receiving the vaccine?
Einstein Healthcare Network
2:07
We have no data on safety in pregnancy but the Society of the Maternal Fetal Medicine states that the vaccinia should be offered to pregnant women

Is there anything that we can do as a hospital to help the community with distribution and administration of the vaccine?
Einstein Healthcare Network
2:08
Einstein is partnering with several different community organizations to help increase awareness of the vaccine and also to help answer questions that members of our community may have.

How long after contracting the Covid virus can an individual safely take the vaccine

You must be fully recovered and complete the quarantine period before you can be vaccinated/

With the new strains of COVID19, truly how effective are the current vaccines given they were directed to the initial strain(s)?
Einstein Healthcare Network
2:08
Pfizer and Moderna are both actively conducting studies on these new variants. The preliminary data has suggested that the UK variant is still susceptible to the vaccines. There is some concern that the South Africa strain may be less effected by the vaccines but that information is still very preliminary and it does appear that the vaccine likely still has some activity against it. Moderna is already started work on an updated vaccine.

Does getting the vaccine mean that you can't get Covid

After you get your second vaccine, how long does it take before it become 95% effective?
Einstein Healthcare Network
2:09
The studies show that the vaccine is 95% protective against getting COVID
Usually about seven to 14 days after the second dose.

What have been the most commonly reported side effects for the vaccine?
Einstein Healthcare Network
2:09
The most common side effects after the vaccine are pain at the injection site, fatigue, fever, headache, and body aches. Usually these last for about 24-48 hours and then resolve.

What is the reasoning behind some people having no sx.s of fatigue , HA/ etc. and others with symptoms for a day or so?
Einstein Healthcare Network
2:10
These symptoms are part of a specific person’s immune system responding to the vaccine. Even in the clinical trials not everyone developed the same symptoms.
Kathy Reichner

If you have immunity via vaccination, can you still spread the virus to other people?
Einstein Healthcare Network
2:10
It is not yet known if people who have been vaccinated can be asymptomatic carriers and still spread the virus. This is actively being investigated and as more information becomes available we'll share that with our staff. This is why we all need to continue following all the other risk reduction measures like mask use, social distancing, and avoiding gatherings. We do know that the vaccines protect against symptomatic infection.

Since there have been findings of different Covid 19 variants,  What happens if a better vaccine comes out? Do they know what happens to the people who got both vaccines already?
Einstein Healthcare Network
2:11
The effectiveness of the vaccines against the new variants of COVID-19 are actively being studied. Preliminary information suggests that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine are effective against the UK strain. The Moderna vaccine may have some reduced effectiveness against the South Africa strain; information about the Pfizer vaccine is still not available. Experts feel that while the effectiveness may be reduced the vaccine is still protective at this time against these strains. Moderna also released information recently that they are working on an updated vaccine. As more information comes out about these new strains/variants and the need for possible booster shots we will share that with our staff.

Has the vaccine been tested on pregnant women or the effects on reproductive systems?
Einstein Healthcare Network
2:12
The vaccine has not yet been studied in pregnant women. The American College of OB/GYN and Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine have both recommended that pregnant women get vaccinated. There is no reported evidence that the vaccines impact fertility.

IF Johnson and Johnson 1 dose vaccine receives approval - will this vaccine from J&J be offered to Einstein employees?
Einstein Healthcare Network
2:12
We do not yet know if we will receive any doses of this vaccine. The distribution of vaccines is being conducted by the federal government and local health departments. If we do receive this vaccine we will need to determine how best to administer it.

Is there any evidence that receiving the vaccine could cause infertility? Would you recommend that a woman who wants to have children receive the vaccine?
