Hello Mr. Fenton, I havent heard anything about interview weekend. I applied Chemical engineeeing PhD program. Is there interview weekend for this program also?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:20
Ju, yes there is - they are still sending out invitations to my knowledge.
Jeremy Cai

Hi Dr. Fenton, I applied to the ESE PhD program and wasn't aware of the existence of the "Interview Weekend". However, I did Skype with a professor and he said the results should be released soon..
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:21
Jeremy, decisions and invitations are sent out on a rolling basis; unfortunately I can't tell you when those will be released.
This is entirely handled by the dept.
Josephine
10:21
Hey Will! I was wondering why UPenn's decisions come out relatively later than other comparable program's (Harvard MDE, Stanford Design Inpact, etc.)
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:21
Josephine, our master's decisions for the Feb 1 deadline programs come out on April 5, for our March 15 deadline, they come out on May 15; our PhD decisions are released on a rolling basis - we don't have a definite date they are all sent out.
Shweta
10:21
Hi Will, is there any chance of decisions supposed to release on May 15 corresponding to the March 15 deadline, are released prior to that date?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:22
Shweta, this is currently under discussion, but if a change is made it will be updated on the website that lists these dates.
Nikunj
10:22
What's the timeframe for late PhD student admits? I ask because you mentioned that NSF fellowship decisions might be considered in special cases for late admits in an earlier response.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:22
Nikunj, they're released on a rolling basis and it's entirely decided by the depts. Unfortunately I can't give you a timeline.
10:23

Thanks sir! So if I  am admitted to CGGT, the program will only be one year right? Does it mean that if a student without a undergraduate major in engineering will not be admitted if he/she only applied to CGGT, not both CGGT and MCIT?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:24
Gang Yao, the CGGT program is like all our others - 10 courses; it is extremely rare for that to be completed in one calendar year. And no, it doesn't necessarily matter if you only applied to CGGT.

Good morning Will,  I'm applying PhD program for Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. I'm wondering when the admission decision will be made?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:25
Phuong, they are made on a rolling basis; all applicants will receive a decision.
Josephine
10:25
Hey Will! How large do you think this year's MIPD program might be in terms of number of students?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:25
Josephine, we don't have a cap, but we usually admit around 30 students.
Eric
10:25
hi will! may i ask if i'm admitted by Penn, how can i contact students who are also admitted by Penn before we go to school? For example, i may want to find a schoolmate to rent a house together.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:26
Eric, we have an enrolled student facebook and linkedin groups. Most depts will put together listservs for incoming students; there's also the off-campus housing website that you can sign up for and search/post about looking for housing.

CHICHU
10:27
Hello, will. how many semesters it will usually take to finish MSE System Engineering study?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:27
Chichu, the program is 10 courses, so usually done in a-year-and-a-half or two years.
Ju
10:27
Mr Fenton, I have one more question. Is the ChE dept still looking application and offer the admission? Last time, I was told that less applications will be admitted since ChE dept admitted a lot of students last year. So, I wonder if there is still a possibility to be accepted
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:27
Ju, yes they are still making decisions. All applicants will receive a decision.
J Z
10:27
Hi, there. May I ask how many students are applying for OMCIT through coursera this year? And what’s the expected acceptance rate?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:28
J Z, the early deadline for the Online program is March 1, so we still have a good deal of time before the deadline - I have no idea how many applications we'll receive, sorry.
Gang Yao
10:28
Thank you sir, you are very helpful.
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:28
You're welcome!
Ching
10:28
Hello Will, I want to ask if girls have a higher admission rate than boys to achieve Gender Equality or 1:1 gender ratio? (Since there's more boys studying engineering than girls)
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:29
Ching, we don't have specific caps or ratios that we look for in any of our programs. I can tell you that based just on the ratio of applications we receive, more men will be admitted than women.
Akash
10:29
Hey! I had applied for the Robotics PhD program, when will the decisions come and also, is it better/advisable to mail potential PhD guides before we get our decisions?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:29
Akash, all phd program decisions are made on a rolling basis, so it's up to the dept. And at this point it's up to you to contact the program, but it's pretty late in the game overall.
Lef Ioannidis
10:29
Hello, are admitted students in the CS
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:30
Lef, no, we don't have any admitted students in this chat - this is just for people that have applied.
Jared
10:30
Hey Will, what is the structure of the delivery of MCIT program? Is it similar to other Coursera courses (video, reading, quiz) or is there more interaction? Also, are there required times to be available for classes?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:31
Jared, all classes are asynchronous. And yes, it is similar to other coursera programs.
Lef Ioannidis
10:31
program guaranteed funding until they graduate?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:31
Lef, for PhDs, it's guaranteed for at least 5 years, as long as you are making good academic progress every semester.
Hongbin Benson Guan
10:31
Hey Will! Morning! I’m just wondering if the decision for MCIT come out by March 15 or May 15?
