Hello, more than 10 weeks have passed since CIS PhD program's deadline. Yet, I have not heard back anything and, as far as I know, some rejections have already been sent. Does this mean that I am on some kind of a waitlist? If so, weren't I supposed to be notified? Thanks!
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:09
Guest, we don't use waitlists - the decisions are released on a rolling basis, so they can and ARE released nearly every day. All applicants will receive a decision, so you'll get one as soon as the department has made it.

Will, I got a question for you. I forgot about whether I submit my ranking certification on the application system(which, in my opinion, is important for me). What can I do to compensate for this? I found no button to upload some extra materials....thank you Will, ;-)
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir

Left, you can send an updated CV/Resume that can include these, or if it's on a transcript, you can include that as well, in an email to gradstudies@seas.upenn.edu, and it will be updated to your application.

Hi Will, I have submitted my application for the MSE program in chemical engineering in December. I am wondering can I receive the decision tomorrow? Thanks a lot
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:10
Ze Zhou, as we have 3 release dates, I can't guarantee that you'll get the decision tomorrow, but if you don't, you'll get it either March 22 or April 5.

Last question from me. Is it accurate that decisions letter will only be sent out April 5 ?(if i am hoping for a day before 4/15)

Thanks :)
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:11
Seed, we have since changed the release dates for programs that had a Feb 1 application deadline. We are now sending out decisions on March 8, March 22 and April 5.

Hello Will, will the people who wrote my recommendation letters be contacted at all during the application process?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:11
Mike, no they will not.
10:12
Mike, let me correct that - they will if we believe there may be some issue with the letter and/or the information they included in it. Otherwise, no.

Last year I was rejected from UPenn and the decision came on the 18th of April. Should I expect the same this year? This time I have been offered a fellowship from a great uni. But I need to know if it's a rejection prior to 15th of April
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:13
Nipun, if you're applying for a master's, it depends on the application deadline, which you can find here: https://gradadm.seas.upenn.edu/how-to-apply/ . If you're applying for a PhD, they're released on a rolling basis and I can't give you a specific release date.

Hi Will! Is every applicant going to have a  interview for the IPD program?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:14
Jessie, no they won't. Most of our master's programs don't do interviews.

Thanks. that's helpful :)
Sorry I have one more question then.
Does the rolling review basically respect the when you enter the queue?

That is to say, since I submitted my application 3/5, I will get reviewed later than people who submitted earlier?

PS: I was not aware there was a 2/1 deadline :(
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:16
Seed, I'm sorry, I'm a bit confused - you say you weren't aware of a 2/1 deadline, yet you submitted an application on 3/5. These deadlines are for two different set of programs. As for how the decisions are made/released, that's up to the programs. I don't specifically know how they're shaping up their decisions/releases.

Thanks for your response Will. Do you know approximately how many students are accepted each year for the PhD in Biomedical Engineering?
J.P.
10:17
Can you give the stats for acceptance rate for the MCIT online program
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:17
Aidira, last year we accepted 70 students for a 15% acceptance rate for BE PhD.
cool 1
10:18
J.P., I am not able to give those out at this time, but I can tell you that we had approx 1500 applicants for the cohort that started in January.
Nipun

Will, I applied for BE PhD and the decision in fact was made on the 25th of April. =( Could I also know the BE PhD admission statistics for last year?
AvatarWill Fenton, Asst Dir
10:18
Nipun, we had 466 applicants last year and admitted 70 or about 15%.
