@Hassan, email, reachforexcellene@leeds.ac.uk, with your full name and school. And I will find out for you and email you back

I wanted to ask if you'll be repeating any of the taster sessions
Guest

Hello, what tips do you have for a job interview?
AvatarMolly
4:21
@Nimrah - sometimes we do run repeats of sessions when we have demand - we cannot guarantee  this though
Hassaan
4:21
@Haroon thank you
AvatarHaaroon
4:21
@Hassan no problem!
Shafrin

If the programme already funds £130, does that mean you cannot apply for anything else over £70, because the presentation said it only funds upto £200

Okay thank you @Shauni Sanderson and @Molly. I will look out for clinical skills in the future.

@Ivanilsa hello! The summer school is a jam packed week of activity! We offer lots of choice of academic activity, give it a go sessions, a full programme of evening activities and you get the chance to experience living in uni accomodation for 5 days/4 nights. It's lots of fun! :)

Hi, Do applicants of dentistry come for mmi’s just like you do for dentistry?
AvatarMolly
4:22
Hi @shafrin, applications for the Opportunities Fund are considered on a case by case basis, but you'll find out all about it during February Half Term so hang on for then!
Lauren
4:22
Will all the events during the week of February 18th repeat or are some just happening once during that week?
AvatarShauni Sanderson
4:22
@Aneesah, hello! Yes, if you're successful in getting an interview you'll be expected to do MMIs

Does the university give scholarships to households from a low income? Like a bursary sort of thing? I was reading the pack we received and it said £3000? How would you apply
Shafrin

I wanted to know if the Medicine Dentistry taster day on the 9th of Feb and the one we will have on the freshers week, will they both have the same content, because I have already booked for the taster day happening on the 9th so I do not want to travel twice for the same thing.
AvatarMolly
4:23
@Lauren - we wont repeat everything from February, if something is listed as a "part One" then we will run "Part Two" in Easter which is different. For example Get Set For Uni has 3 parts to it for the various stages of UCAS you will be at :)

Thank you @Shauni

also, are the groups we were put in on Saturday the groups that we will permanently be in?
AvatarShauni Sanderson
4:24
@Anonymous hi! There are lots of scholarship/bursary options available at Leeds and other Universities. We'll go through this in more detail with you in Get Set For Uni Part 3 (October Half Term) as these can change from year to year. Some you have to apply for, and some you don't, but we'll be sure to send you full details about the Leeds ones when they're confirmed!

Hi @Guest. I'd recommend doing some research about the company and thinking about why you'd be a good fit for them. I'd also make sure that you know exactly what the job entails and why you'd be suitable for it in terms of your skills/experience. Finally, think of something interesting to ask them at the end. Hope that helps!

When doing work placements (medicine) how far do you typically send students?
Pearls
4:24
Hi there, firstly I'd like to say thanks for the great induction last week! My question is if you happen to know if Leeds adds courses to its programme and if so, how often? I ask this because I'm curious about the likelihood that a Law w/ politics or philosophy course could come about in the next few years.
AvatarMolly
4:24
Hi @shafrin, all of the events we run on RfE are unique to us, and if we ever repeat an event then we'll advertise it clearly as a repeat, so you'll know not to book it twice. Any events at the University that aren't part of RfE will not be the same events as those we run on the scheme.
Zain
4:24
Another question, how do you guys keep organised with your work. Thanks
AvatarMolly
4:24
@Nimrah - No, those groups were just for Saturday! We couldn't possibly keep you in those groups as we wont ever have all 200 students on campus again this year. You will be grouped with students who have chosen to attend that particular event
AvatarHaaroon
4:24
@Hassan, this would depend on what placements the medical school had available at time.
Shafrin
4:25
Thank you very much for the information, really helpful. Hope to see you soon. Have a great evening.
AvatarMolly
4:25
Thanks @Shafrin, you too!

Will Reach for excellence or Access to Leeds help give advice on the BMAT and UKCAT test?
Anonymous
4:25
For example I have applied to discover chemistry. Will everyone just be in one big group?
AvatarMolly
4:26
@Anonymous - everyone will be in one group on that event

Are RFE participants given any priority when applying for uni ?
Hassaan
4:26
@Haroon thanks again
AvatarShauni Sanderson
4:26
@Pearls, glad you enjoyed it! Law at Leeds isn't usually offered as a joint honours course, but you can check when it comes to applying. At Leeds there is the opportunity to take 'Discovery Modules' that are different from your main course, so you could for example do a Law degree with a few modules from Philosophy!

How does work experience work for medicine within the RfE programme?
Becca
4:27
If you're unable to attend an event or havent been selected, is there anyway of gaining access to the information that was provided (e.g. a powerpoint etc.)?
AvatarMolly
4:27
Hi @Lauren, we don't have any events that are geared specifically towards the BMAT/UKCAT, but there are plenty of Medicine/Dentistry sessions throughout the year that will help to strengthen your application, and where you can talk to current undergraduate Medical students for help and advice.

How does the student loan work?nobody has really told me how it works
AvatarMatthew John

Hi @Zain. It really depends what works for you, but a basic 'things to do list' is a good place to start, and using a calendar definitely helps. Also, try creating deadlines for yourself and set reminders on your phone.
