@Guest - part one is the first of 3 events we run and we find that our students who attend all 3 are more prepared for uni and have the knowledge they need to apply. The first part will introduce you to choosing a course, choosing a university, research intensive education and how to navigate a university open day!

What is medicine with a gateway year and why does it have lower entry requirements than the standard medicine course
AvatarShauni
4:17
@Guest the medicine gateway is a foundation year, so essentially a year zero. This helps students who might not meet the entry requirements prepare before starting year 1 of medicine
meeee
4:17
how do you write a personal statement

4:18
@meee - we will show you how in Easter at Get Set For Uni Part 2 - its a little early for 2021 entry right now

does you know if the engineering department of the uni offer work experience?
AvatarShauni

@R. I would recommend looking at Engineering firms for work placements and approaching them directly. I don't know of any work experience programmes for non-university students in engineering currently!

Why do some universities require chemistry and biology for some science courses, but others don't?
AvatarShauni
4:20
@Guest, it depends on the university and can depend on the content of the course. One Science course can be really different from another, so we'd always recommend looking at the modules!

Hi, I want to study dentistry at University and I was just wondering if you could help with ideas for manual dexterity as I know it is really important but I don't play a musical instrument which is the main example of this that I can find online.
AvatarShauni
4:20
@Riya hi! This is entirely up to you. We don't think you should play an instrument if you don't enjoy it. People often talk about handicrafts, up close detailed work such as drawing, but there will also be the opportunity to use our VR Simodont machines on RfE events which you could also talk about!
AvatarJames
4:21
@...... it would take me around 2 hours to explain UCAS in detail to you - I will do this with all students when UCAS opens for your entry at easter as part of Get Set For Uni Part Two
Guest

Do we need to bring the lanyards that we were given on induction day to any future events?
AvatarMatthew
4:21
Hi @guest 2. In theory no, if you don't meet the subject specific requirements you will not be eligible for the course. This may, however, depend on the course, its popularity and the strength of your application. Admissions teams would be able to best advise you on the flexibility of these requirements. Essentially though, if you don't meet the requirements someone else will. You may also find that you'll struggle a lot in your 1st year if you don't have the same knowledge in certain subjects as your classmates.
AvatarJames
4:21
@Guest - no you don't need to bring them with you again - they were a souvenir for you to keep from our launch!
meeee

AvatarShauni
4:21
@...me ideally something in a medical environment like a hospital or GP surgery! But anything to do with caring for people is good - think of the skills needed to be a good doctor
Riya

Okay thank you, do you know when the VR Simodont machines can be used? And also I was wondering if there is a dentistry reading list at all to show to universities I do wider reading etc.
